Half-life 2 Info?
<div class="IPBDescription">From the Germans... :O</div> <a href='http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?action=viewthread&threadid=40651' target='_blank'>http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?...&threadid=40651</a>
The translation is really sucky, er pretty much something about NVIDIA mentioning HL2 during a conference call and a quote from a developer alledgedly. Its supposed to be out by the end of this year, and use the Quake 3 engine. Considering it gave THAT much info it has to be false.
Lets see:
-The Quake 3 engine has about 10 more minutes of life in it
-We have both the Doom 3 and Deus Ex 2 engines coming out soon
-PC Gamer (who I would trust more then a german gaming site I never heard of) reported last issue that Valve is putting TF2 on hold while they work on the engine for HL2. Hm, unless they are modding the holy hell out of the Q3 engine, shouldnt take this long (been what? 5 years?). Unless they are making their own engine.
The upside maybe: If they are using the Q3 engine, then they arnt using the Unreal 2 engine...meaning...no big **** Xen levels! Yay!
2003 will be a very good year for me if HL2 is coming out. Deus Ex 2, Enter the Matrix, Matrix 2, Matrix 3, best year ever? Maybe...

Besides, HL is made with the Quake engine - I wouldn't mind seeing what Valve did with the Q3 engine if that is indeed what they have used. I heard they made their own from scratch, though (and I'd rather believe that).

Yes, some 3DFX card manufacturers cite HL2. They do since 1999.
Yes, Valve uses the Cg programming language. That means that they're *gasp* programming.
Then, Gamestar goes on speculating about the game content of a game that's not even scheduled, by quoting two lines from one of the most heavily interviewed developers in human history, talk about the probability of bullet time, a female lead, etc.
I once again feel reminded why I stopped reading German gaming mags two years ago.
