    yes, it blocks aimbots

no, you can use any custom sounds/models you want

yes, you can still use scripts

Cool, thanks for the info. :)

And just to clarify.. I heard some kinds of aimbots used custom models to brighten the colors of all models, and then locked onto those bright colors. Or something along those lines at least; so since you can use whatever models you want, you'll still see the players in bright colors, but C-D will disallow a program or script or whatever it is from locking onto said colors, right? And as such the only way to fix this would be to enforce file consistancy on servers, right?

So since you all seem quite knowledgeable about this, can I ask a couple questions?

Will Cheating Death disallow you from playing with custom models and sounds?

Does Cheating Death stop aimbots from working? (I hate having to second-guess myself as to whether someone is really that good or just using an aimbot... =P)

If you are running C-D, can you still have scripts? Such as leap-bite or blink-swipe scripts? Or even commander scripts that allow you to use 10-key instead of clicking?<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
crackerjackmac has answered your specific questions.

For a bit of background, here's what C-D does.

The halflife engine renders up the scene around you from furthest point on the map in the direction of your FOV to nearest point. It lays down entities including players in that way and then occludes then with walls, other entities etc.

Hence the reason you can 'wallhack' at all. Wallhacking simply involves removing non-player entities in this list hence you can 'see' the player through the wall.

C-D takes all these entities and checks if they're occluded. If they are, then it actually re-maps them behind you (for the visual entities) so that you only see what's visible in your FOV.

If you try using a WH on a C-D server you won't see anything behind the walls.

For aimbots etc, C-D Hooks the same HL Hook that wallhacks and aimbots use and then protects that Hook (disallowing any other program/dll from hooking it). It has an encrypted challenge/response with the server that ensures that some cheat is not 'pretending' to be C-D while hooking the relevant HL functions.

Leastways that's how it used to work back in the days that I was involved with it. I'm sure UA have probably added other stuff to it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Actually, I do believe that any models you have in the directory that are too uniformly colored result in a code 16. I joined a TFC server and it made me download some stupid spiderman .mdl (tfc\models\player\spiderman\spiderman.mdl). I later installed C-D, and when I set my HLIT to autoexecute cheating death on connection to any halflife server, I got the code 16 when I tried to join a TFC server. Soooo, your custom models must be reasonable. (I don't know what models are "reasonable").

    And Verbose - yeah - I read too much into your post <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

That's cool. I don't understand how players have troubles using Cheating-Death. You install it once, it auto updates, you can make it minimize to your tray. And if your like me you never have to start it. I use HLSW, GameTiger, All-Seeing Eye, to join servers (ingame browser = ick) and all of those have a feature to enable cheating-death on connect. HLSW even detects if cheating death is required or optional and based on that starts the program, if its not then it doesn't execute it. Other programs allow this also, like someone else said HLIT does it too, can't speak for gamespy hate that program.

I have always liked cheating death and was sad when it started to decline to HLG and VAC when it prevented it from working. Hopefully with UA now in development it will become stronger.

of course....but they change the challenge and response every update so by the time OGC figures it out, CD has been updated again.

You are wrong again. It may take you two weeks, but the people that make cheats figure it out rather quickly.
