going sunset they say.
Motor City online will be gone as of august 29th, 2003. I played it for like 2 months, only becasue I never really had money to pay the $9.95 a month, im so poor. I enjoyed it somewhat but I could never really get into it. Anyway, now theyre giving me either a free copy of the Sims online or Ultima online. EA still wants my money I guess.

Paying a monthly fee for a game I jus don't get! When you pay for a game from the shop that should be it. Adding monthly payments to actually play the game is jus profitering. It's not like EA actually NEED the cash.

    Can you say bandwith...
I too am **** when I want to play a MMOG (Massively multiplayer online game) and they charge a $/month.
But they don't really have a choice.

They can't give you 24/7 support, free updates, free patches, free downloadable material (such as new models, new code, new sounds, new levels, etc..) and bandwith at no cost...

They make a lot of money, but most of those companies aren't rich (except for EA and Sony).
What I would like em to do though, is to keep that monthley fee low. It used to be 9.99 for Ultima Online and Everquest, now it's like 13.99 for the new ones...
And this is bound to keep being raised... I bet next year MMOG will be 15.99, then 19.99, then ....

Yeah, but you don't need to "****" 10 EVERY month, I bet they could do it every other month, or even once a year. If you think about it, they get $10.99 from THOUSANDS/Millions of players a month.

The reason you have to pay money for MMOs is all the bandwith, servers, maintenance, live updates (!!!), etc., etc. that they do.

Most people say that 10 a month is a ripoff. I beg to differ.

When I played EQ, I prolly got a good combined 12 months of playing nearly only EQ for my gaming. As in, I didn't buy any new games during that timeframe. So, for 120 bucks, plus the actual game + expansions, so around 200 dollars, I was entertained for a whole year.

Doesn't look so bad now, does it?

I don't need to keep paying though.

I got NS for free. This will keep me entertained for the year, and for free!

I buy, on average, about 2 games a year. That's less than 100 bucks a year for games.

Playing anything that charges a monthly fee would cause my bill to DOUBLE, and that's if I don't get any other games. My .02 on the monthly fee stuff.

Sorry to hear that MCO is gone, what was it, exactly?

Need For Speed Motor City Online was a MMOG that involved racing and tweaking cars from the 50's 60's and 70's. You won money/points buy racing. The points leveled you up and the money allowed you to buy new cars, and new parts for cars, like new exhausts and motors. You could race against other ppl for money, extra points, or for there car if your really extreme.

    EXAMPLE:

You pay 20.00 USD a month for a porn site, get movies, photos, etc, scenarios always change, you see different models etc.

You pay 10.00 USD a month for a game, graphics always the same, game gets old, boring etc.

just example, Some porn sites get boring too :-P

anyway the real thing is better anyway :-)

ace- that's really off-topic, and the trick is (I go to college, I know many tricks) to get a 3 day trial, d/l all of it, and post it on the network. That's if you don't sneak through a backdoor, or through their badly-coded site. *shrug* with online games, you're playing something with many people.

With porn sites, well. I'll let that topic end.

I recognize MCO now that they mentioned need for speed. Had it not had that monthly fee I think I would have liked it.
