Fade Shoots Through Vents

we welded the vents shut in the hive location called Poop Fondling or was that Waste Handling and some fade went up to the vent and was shooting through it with acid rockets and killing our base there. we told him to stop exploiting and he wouldn't stop and he was the admin too i think. when is this bug gonna be fixed? fades can shoot through glass as well. maybe if you moved the firing point a little bit back on their body or made the fade's collision cylinder a bit bigger so they couldn't get so close to things.

    yeah, the origin of the acid rocket is far enough forward with respect to the bounding box that by pressing the fade up to a thin structure, the fade can fire through it. Definately needs to get fixed.

    that's another exploit that is going to be fixed. so there's no excuse for fades to be able to shoot through things.

    on ns_dank fades can shoot through the door that blocks the marine base, or any other very thin wall for that matter. also marines with thier large build distance can build through walls. as in ns_caged near the ventilation hive. instead of welding the wall down, you can place a phase gate right near the wall and build it from the other side. This also allows you to get into the furance room on ns_bast. you can go inside the furnace and build seiges that cant be attacked.

    Not exactly null and void, just extended to "Fades AND Marines" shouldn't be able to shoot through walls.

    No, null and void.

    Fades shoot through a thin door, just shoot the hell back, fade gets hurt and runs away. The two bugs cancel each other out.

    And if anything, marine wall penetration is much better then alien acid rocket penetration, since the fade has to get up close to a wall to do it, wheras a marine just has to know where to aim.

    The argument is null and void in the fact that both teams can easily do it. It probably will be adressed but as of this moment it's more of a non-issue...

    Only nerds use exploits.

    I never even noticed those but now that you mention it I had wondered how I was getting shot sometimes from nowhere I could place, and through welded vents.

    yeah that should be fixed... i never had that happen to me but for fades AND marines to be able to shoot thru walls is stupid... reminds me too much of CS *shudders*

    Skulks can also bite through certain thin doors and walls... I chewed a marine to pieces through one of the doors on ns_eclipse that leads from the eclipse hive to the computer core...

    I hate it when fades run up to the door in marine spawn on ns_hera and acid spam through it, then blink away when you open the door. Just another reason not to play that map I suppose... oh well.

    I used to complain about things like this, but after reading that "Play to Win" article I've changed my tune. Things like this are going to exist in the game and people are going to use them as long as they are there. For every marine player that complains about Fades shooting through thin brushes there is an alien player complaining about crouching marines. Until it's fixed I would advise you to look at it like a feature instead of a bug because no one is going to police themselves. It will save you the frustration. No point in getting all worked up over it. You know they can do it so build in a place where they cant take advantage of it. Just play the game and have fun, there are enough REal Life issues to raise your blood pressure.

    In Waste Handling on Tanith, yes, the Fades can shoot through the vent and destroy basicly everything that isn't on the top part near the Res tower (and most of that junk sinks). Marines CAN'T shoot him back, turrets can't shoot him back, not even grenades exploding right under him will hurt him...tested, tried, proven. It does need to be fixed.

    Isn't it nonsensical to use an arguement that is essentially: well, it doesn't matter if something is broken, because something else is broken too.

    Of course, fades shooting through walls is a bug, and should be corrected as priorities allow. If marines can shoot through walls, then that is another bug that should be fixed. I understand that the devs are busy, and will get to these fixes (or not) when they can.

    In the meantime, if you use them, you are lame. That's all.

    You're right, but what I meant was, there are bugs on both sides and they will be fixed, so in the meantime, just view them as features. There is no pont in getting all worked up and frustrated at people abusing the bugs. No one will listen and stop abusing them so you might as well, for the sake of your own sanity, accept them for now.

    the mareins could just be sensible and NOT weld the vent shut, so they can just shoot at the fade normally? The vent has a lot of holes in its graphic, so it looks like it should be able to be shot through, shame marine bullets don't go through as well.

    i fixed this for tanith v1.1

    it's a global problem with NS right now - alien projectiles travel through things like doors and welds. hopefully flayra will fix this in 1.1.

    enough with the exploit this, exploit that. just play. if you get shot thru a wall, you know next time not to hide behind that wall!!!

    btw, acid goes thru elevator floors too! for example, on ns_bast, if marines come down the large elevator in the base, acid rocket the bottom to kill them all. can do the same with the 3 elevators in ns_nothing. and all elevators for that matter. ive just experienced alot of kills doing it on ns_nothing and ns_bast. exploit or not, it will keep them rines from comming down that elevator <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
