I'm guessing from the hive it means Mother as in a computer. Hance Mother interface as well.
I still remember the first time this came up in a game.
Gorge: Wheres the third hive ? Me: (thinks nOOb) just look on hive sight it shows up on it. nOOb Gorge: where ? Me: It's a white circle. nOOb Gorge: I know that! Can't see another. Me: (actually bothers to look for the first time).....well bugger me....where is it ? not-a-nOOb gorge: thats what i've been sayin!!
That game dragged on for ages because we couldn't find that damn hive. We'd wonder across it every now again by accident and then try and remember where the hell it was. This was back in 1.0 and my first time on Nancy
maybe the mapper who made it should say what he wanted it to be named <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->..

Aye - that hive caused SO many problems in the first weeks of NS lol.
I remember going gorge first time, and i just COULDNT find the hive, it was SO funny.
Everyone was wondering, and someone shouted out to our team :
"OMG u n00bs, look there is NO NAME, so there is NO third hive!!!!!!!!"
He was an alien <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Oh, Talesin, DONT insult the mappers, they worked DAMN hard for the maps, and have done a fine job, so what if there are a few things wrong, it doesnt mean u point it out.........

I understand how much work it put into them. But it doesn't mean that you can't bring up the part they did kinda a half-a**ed job on.
Honestly this is the first time I've heard ppl complain about noname, I guess it never bothered me before. I've heard Mother every now and then but thats about it.
It seems that down under it is, was, and always will be "noname".
Let me tell you, it's not nearly as much of a problem as not knowing what your teammates mean by "red room" <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

The mapper forgot to label it, and it was released. A lot of maps get playtested without area/Hive names, and they aren't dubbed with their locators until shortly before release. Wasn't realized until after release had gone through, that it was missing the label.. too late for a recall/re-issue, just has been left that way.

Most players will call it No-Name. Some will call it Mother hive, or just mother. Both are (technically) correct.
I spent an entire game trying to explain that No-Name actually *does* have a name. "I'm securing Mother, send backup"
"you're securing what now?"
same game "which hive should we attack" "I vote Mother, they don't have as much def there" "where's Mother?" "Mother? wtf is that?"

And soon we'll have yet another followup saying it's Mother INTERFACE, not Mother HIVE.
28 days later...
"1.1 is out!" "Really?! PLEASE TELL ME THEY FIXED NANCY HIVE NAME!!!"
I still remember the first time this came up in a game.

It should be named: Marines@Here!
I once got called a "n00b" because I called it Mother Hive instead of Noname, which tickled my funny bone a little.
