Size does matter

Or not?
So just a question about size. Not alien size, not human size, no MOD size.

Can you think of some kind of size the long waited, wonderful 'beta1 full installer' will have?
So that I can already think of things I tear to pieces while the download still takes 6 hours on my wonderful 64K single ISDN. Or things to tear in peaces during waiting for my pal to finally burn that on CD after he has downloaded it just cause he got DSL.

Not a very dramatic question, but try to answer if you feel like doing it.

My guess would be about the same size as the Counter-Strike installer, which is 100mb.

the current size is 81.4 megs... however, that excludes final maps, models, animations, gfx, and numerous other things, so i think we can all bet on about a 95 meg installer, hope that doesn't hurt any 56ker's TO much

are you kidding? 95 megs would take like about 9 and a half hours on a good connection, meaning much more for 56kers on the British Isles.

When it comes out, if anyone wants me to mail them a burned cd with the installer on it, tell me.

    I love being on a T3. : )

I'm really surprised that it'll be that small though. The models seem really detailed, the maps are, from what I hear, HUGE, and the game seems like a huge departure from anything I've ever seen before in half-life...
The team keeps impressing me more and more. It's a miracle it's under 100 megs when Firearms 2.5 was over that.

On another note- Will you guys have a Fileplanet download mirror? I ask because they offer you the option of having large files burnt onto disks and sent to you in case your connection's too dang slow.

I hope this question doesn't tick anyone off, but what are the chances that the beta will be released before June 12th? If it's released after that I'm gonna have to pray you guys get a fileplanet mirror because I'll be on a 56k unless I can convince mommy to grab a DSL provider that doesn't suck.

I think that NS will be mirrored on Fileplanet. As much as everyone thinks it sucks, its still one of the most (if not the most) visited gaming download site. It would be somewhat foolish to pass up that kind of publicity. And if I recall correctly, the NSTR2 was mirrored on Fileplanet.

As for June 12, well, that's a month away. It's, well, let's just say don't hold your breath.

Naa size isn't stopping me from downloading.

/me also wonders that its that small. I thought on about 150 megs. e.g. DoD is 138 megs big.

A word to fileplanet: Yeah it sucks, that you gotta have to wait about 15-30 mins. to download, cause servers are full. But on the other side when you start downoading, it works. Thats the pro, so I think it would be hosted on FP.
The Burn on CD thing is good, but expensive. For me that would be $9,99 + international shipping, sure thats not much, but for one CD I think its quite much. On the other hand: till the CD arrives at me, I also get the file burned on CD from one of my lazy friends, who have DSL

I've got a subscription to Fileplanet. And for only $4.99 a month, or your first born child, you can use it! I need babies to sacrifice to Baal so he'll help the Mastersword team release Beta 2.0 faster.

Fileplanet has premium accounts... pay them, and you don't have to wait in line.

By the way, most of the waiting on Fileplanet is artificially inflated. They deliberately jack up wait times for popular files.

damn, i guess i'll have to pull an all-nighter on my 56k when the beat comes out

A good tip: LAN cafes normally have fast connections and the ability to burn downloaded files to CD for a minimum fee. What could take 10 hours on a 56K could take but an hour including travel.

Coil why would they jack up the wait time? I don't see how they'll gain either way. I use FP just because the wait really doesn't bug me as long as its in the hour range. Then again, for NS line to get that small, it'll be out for a few days. >< Maybe I'll download it somewhere else....
