4. (No)
    5. (Yes) In a violent film there are roughly two hours (crappy) dialogue coupled with bloody fight scenes, in a violent computer game there are violent fight scenes, for 10+ hours.

Presenting this point could be difficult. Addictive to what? Playing more games or experiencing violence in or out of video games?

I would rephrase this question to "Does the media cover video games objectively?". "Fairly covering" them could mean "Are they prioritized differently than other stories?"

Be sure to mention the population sample you've selected in your report. It's a biased group but as long as you mention it in your report, the results can be properly distinguished. And I'm 18+ btw.

he probably doesn't need the help anymore now that he's assuredly at school turning the thing in.

Tycho, keep us updated as to the results of this too :P What response you get and whatnot. If I was your teacher I'd be giving you a few marks off for asking a biased audience ;) I mean after all if you were doing a survey about religion you wouldn't go to a baptist church and have them as your sole test group ;)

    18+.

    1. N. Strictly speaking, video games DO affect people's behavior - playing video games itself is a behavior. But I'm going to ignore the worded question and answer the intended(I think) question, which is: do video games necessarily encourage VIOLENT behavior? And the answer to that is a resounding No.

    2. N. It's unconstitutional. Plain and simple.

    3. N. Video games can be psychologically addictive, like many things (I find books to be more addictive than anything else), but I've been hooked on non-violent games with an equal amount of fervor, so I don't think it's the violence.

    4. N. On the whole, definitely not, if by "the meda" you mean the mainstream media. Independent media tends to be better.

    5. Y. I'd say violence makes up a larger part of the video game market than it does the movie market. For now, at least.

    6. A or B. I'd have to check the market statistics. Last I checked it was split pretty evenly between 18- and 18+.

    7. B.

Only a stupid person would tell their teacher that they surveyed a completely biased group

The thing that really throws me was that everyone here said that the media does not cover games fairly, which is obviously right, but if you ask the average person, they say "Yeah, they're fair." This means these people don't know that they are being fed blatant lies.

Actually, it's important to define the population sample in your survey (as I stated earlier). Your teacher, assuming she/he has any working knowledge of statistics, should expect you to detail the characteristics of the sample.

As for the average person comment, consider the difference between not knowing when you're being fed blatant lies and never being offered an opposing point of view.

What's actually very interesting is that the media tried to draw a link between violent games and the D.C. sniper. I thought that was ridiculous. What I thought was even more ridiculous was when they had some pompous "expert" declare DOOM a "sniper game." Yes, he said "sniper game."

    ..

You can't even look up or down!

But anyway, I also remember they were saying "Would it be easy for an inexperienced non-marksman to commit these acts?" And they had one of their reporters go to a shooting range with an AR15 with a bipod and laser scope and everything and shoot at a target 20m away. When they showed the green reporter scoring a neckshot on the target, they played a stint of ominous chords. I thought that was beyond stupid.

And so I lost my already-wavering respect for FOX News.

That's okay. Everyone else in my class is so stupid that I can do half an effort and get an A. "Forgetting" to mention who I surveyed won't lose me anything.
