No to make people violent, yes to affect their behavior. Watch a LAN game of CS. "OK WHO TK'ed ME, you're gonna get it, you #$%@"
2. Do you think that the United States Government shuld be able to censor violent video games?
N, censorship in any form or fashion=bad.
3. Do you think that the violence in video games is addictive?
N, but videogames are.
4. Do you think that the media fairly covers video games (i.e. when they were blaming Columbine and the sniper shootings and 9/11 on games)
N, media doesn't do anything fairly.
5. Do you think video games are more violent then movies?

6. Who do you think plays the most videogames?
B. Adult Males
Adult males do not have curfews or any other restrictions that other game playing audiences might
7. Do you drink tea
D. Never
I used to drink tea regularly (4-5 times weekly) but stopped when I stopped using products that contained caffeine. I sleep a lot better now, but can't pull all-nighters anymore.
I'm 19 years old.

5)N (SoF may be bad, but there are some REALLY nasty movies out there)
6)A (some other poll said the average PC gamer age is 16, but that may be skewed from all of the CS kiddies)
7)A (java chai - tea AND coffee at the same time!)
And I am 16, making me the average gamer (in terms of age at least; the average gamer doesn't have enough sense to play NS).
Also, I think you should post on other forums, perhaps forums that have nothing to do with gaming. You're gonna get a pretty one-sided response asking in a game forum, after all.
1. No. [edit]After reading Windelkron's and other posts that say "does affect behavior, does not make more violent", I think that's a more accurate answer[/edit]
It is more dependent on if that person is more inclined to that behavior before exposure to the accused form of multimedia. Easiest comparison is to TV, internet, or print advertisements: if you don't intend on buying a car, soap, alcoholic beverage, etc. in the near future, the advertisement will have less of an effect on you; if you do have intentions of purchasing such a class of product, then the advertisement is that much more likely to push you towards the specific action of buying that particular product.
2. No.
Specification between federal and state would make this question easier to give a specific explanation for my answer, but either way I say no.
3. No.
Games such as the Sims series, Everquest, other MMORPG's, etc. are the ones most often documented as "addictive" by the same definition that gambling, drugs, alcohol, etc. are often defined as addictive. A recurring theme among these is that you have an avatar who represents you, gains skills according to what you attribute points to, etc; in short, it simulates <b>life</b> (on a smaller scale and/or in a different universe/world setting), not necessarily violence. (The only violence in the Sims requires that the player actively intend on inflicting sadistic injury on characters; thus, in that game, in-game violence is the effect of the player's intentions, rather than a cause for real-life violent effects -- it's an interesting inversion considering the addictiveness of the game).
Also important to note is that many of these are played by both males and females (look at The Sims, it's almost a 50/50 ratio), so the fact that game violence is not addictive applies to both males and females.
4. No.
If you define "The Media" in this sentence in forms similar to computer magazines or computer/videogame magazines, they are biased towards the "videogames can never cause violence" side of the argument; they do this for the purpose of continued profit through continued readership, because they know the majority of their existing readers will be on this side.
If you define "The Media" as any other, non-computer-affiliated news/media form, they will be biased towards the beleif that "videogames do cause violence" for the exact same reasons: continued readership. The word "always" may or may not be inserted depending on whether they want to appear moderate or extremist to their readers.
Either way, the media does not fairly cover videogames, simply because by wanting to continue gaining a profit, they can't afford to do so.
5. No, movies are more violent than videogames.
Because I assume the intention of this question falls into the category of "which has a greater effect", we may compare equally "popular" (and thus, hopefully, equally influencing), forms of each. Compare the top selling games to the top selling movie in terms of sales over a given time period.
5 minutes of searching gave me the info that in 2001 the top selling games were The Sims, Roller Coaster Tycoon, and a Harry Potter game (ranked from 1 to 3, respectively). I'd venture to say that the top selling movies in the same time period were more violent, and thus say that (at least recently) movies are more violent than videogames.
6. By sheer # of hours, without doing any research, I'd guess A, young adult males. It should be noted that each age group plays a distinctly different genre. Small children are far more likely to understand the mechanics of a game like Super Monkey Ball than Civilization III, and have corresponding lengths of their "gaming sessions." On the other hand, adults may play no games at all, or hours and hours of games that have nostalgic value; it is a wide range that depends on their upbringing.
7. C. Other than Iced tea on occasion (avg. once a month or once every 2 months) I do not usually find myself drinking tea. I do not drink coffee either, decaf or regular, nor do I have more than 1 can worth of caffienated [sp?] soda every 2 weeks. (for assorted health reasons, and general paranoia)
I am male, currently 17 years old.

Over 18
Way over 18...
Video games have the <i>potential</i> to make people violent, but this is very rare. My answer to this part is, for the most part, no.
As for affecting behaviour, yes. It's actually somewhat common, and I've personally seen it happen. A friend of mine (age 22) was playing GTA: Vice City for about 6 hours straight, and we left his place to drive somewhere. All was good (no accidents), but he was driving a bit reckless until I pointed it out to him. He wasn't even aware he was driving like that!!
Overall, I'd have to say <b>yes</b> to this question.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->2. Do you think that the United States Government should be able to censor violent video games? Y/N<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
This one's iffy; it could go either way. Taking my first answer into account, I'd probably say yes. However, the game designers made the game that way on purpose. Altering their work for the sole purpose of "protecting the minds of our youth" (or however they try to word it) is wrong.
However, the current game ratings system does its job quite well. Remember that friend I mentioned above? His mother bought the game for him for Christmas, and the store clerk was <i>required</i> to ask "is this game going to be played by someone under 18 years of age?".
After that, IMO, it's basically up to the parents to keep excessively violent games from their children <i>if they believe it will affect them</i>.
My short answer to this is <b>no</b>. The parents would know better if a game would affect their child/children.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->3. Do you think that the violence in video games is addictive? Y/N<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I just spent the past 15 minutes typing answers for this question that end up supporting both answers, and then deleting them. I personally can't seem to come to a certain answer, but ultimately, my answer leans more towards <b>no</b>.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->4. Do you think that the media fairly covers video games (i.e. when they were blaming Columbine and the sniper shootings and 9/11 on games) Y/N<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
<b>No</b>, they don't. Just about any time a violent act is committed by a youth, the media immediately puts a few seconds of Doom footage on the screen. It's almost like that footage is in a quickdraw holster on the director's belt.
I guess violent video games are something the media can identify with. They know they exist, they know they're violent. Rather than place the blame on the child's parents, who are <i>responsible</i> for their children, it's easier to point a finger at something that makes billions of dollars.
[sarcasm]
After all.... in this day and age, money is more valuable than anything, isn't it?
[/sarcasm]
