Well, I guess I'm old school as well. Not that it seems to count much. It's the idiots that get noticed more. But there's not really much point in complaining, no matter how good those times were (and they were good).
Mmmm, nstr... I mainly remember the steps with cool particle effects though

Although I registred before the release of Natural Selection, I wouldn't consider myself a "old school community member".
Actually I think one reasons for these boards becoming a bit more unfriendly (I belief they're still a nicer place than many others I've seen) is the fact that some people consider themselves perhaps not better but at least a bit "more respectable" than those who joined later (especially after the release).
I can understand that some people miss the good old times and that it sometimes hurt to see so much uninformedness(?), but remember that only the fact that you joined a few months earlier than others (and most of us can't even say that they're registred a whole year) doesn't make a newcomer less respectable. I could name some "nOObs" that are far more "respectable" than some of the so-called "old school members"...
Sure, people who have followed the mod from "the beginning" on seems to deserve some respect, but although they aren't, they also could have been some totaly morons who just had the luck to find this mod on the search for cheats. Bad example, but I hope you got my point.

I came here right after hearing about Flaytona. I seem to remember sending Flayra or MonsE an e-mail trying to clear things up before I joined the forums. Something like:
"I'm a bit confused. If Natural Selection is supposed to be an aliens vs. marines game, what is this Flaytona? Why are they racing?"
Haha, j00 stooped n00b!
After watching the demo movie (does anyone still have it?), I joined and made this post:

Heh MonsE. The days of UBB were great, i mean, you got to see Molec make 200 posts in under a minute, i don't know how in god names, but it happened. =D. I'm just messing with you Molec, hehe, although i do miss the old forums. (no, not the speed of them, god no.)
I don't know if I'd be considered Old School, but I joined late-September/early-October. The forums were friendly. I posted a "OMG 1'm 4 n00b" message and they welcomed me pretty much with open arms. Sadly, I never became buddies with a developer, moderator or playtester.

I joined a long time ago. Does that count?
I don't think it really matters how long ago you joined. What matters is that you were interested enough to join the forums even when the game wasn't out yet (and still seemed a ways away), while all the lamers that popped in after the release were simply too impatient to join before the release. Theoretically. And of course there are a lot of people who simply didn't know about NS until after the release. I just had happened to run across it on PHL.com Does the fact that I happened to discover NS a couple months sooner rather than later make me a different person?
All in all... Everyone stop being so concerned with join dates and post counts, its pathetic. And it has no effect on what the team thinks of you. In fact, I believe there are some new Playtesters and Moderators who have just recently joined just before if not after release.
I found out about NS about two weeks before it was released. Came to the website, read basically everything that was released so far, and skimmed through the forums.
I was never much of a forums person, so I didn't sign up until I read a post that I simply had to reply to. Heh, turns out most of my first half dozen posts were a debate with Relic25.
how did all you people find ns? (talkin to mostly the old-skoolers) i myself was looking at half life 2 things at school last year and a saw a forum with a screen of ns that looked awesome (it was of commander view) so i went to rr, read sum, then went to forumz.

I don't visit Planet Half Life, due to the ads that have begun popping up. I only heard about it because someone else mentioned it. I joined the forum to read the bug reports to learn what was wrong with the game, and if players were noticing any problems. I wanted to see what balance problems were going to be fixed, and whatnot.
But man, the attitude I faced was terrible! If not for the new users complaining bitterly about a game they just started playing, it was the veterans of the forum all telling us to leave and stop playing their game!
I can understand how you feel. I have had problems like this in the past. I know that many of these new users are bad, but that doesn't mean every new user is terrible. I don't see how the older users are any better than the new, simply because they heard about the game beforehand. All it means is that you stumbled upon the information earlier. Whoop-tee-doo.

look, I think most of the old forum members are rather good
however there are a jew jack***es our there who ruin it, posts like Renegade's just are not right (especaily if you look at WolfWings' stuff, any one who went through all of that to simply help with some rumors is not to be "disdained"
meh, just my 2 cents (from a sorta old school member ;D)
You know what would be really great, is if there was a forum available for people who joined before october or something, and other invites to other people that deserve it, like flatline. It sure gets my vote, but bah, just wishful thinking, im sure it never would happen.
I was around when the first tech release and it was around round about when Moleculor came to the forums (he was memorable since most of the posts were started and was answered by him :o ) But I didn’t use this account of course this ones too new
