Welder woes

This is sorta more of what I remember from opposing forces, where as when the welders knocked down the door, if you set foot on the door you could get burned. Is the welding in the game (if there is that is) subject to this kinda fire pain (such as unexpecting aliens getting a rude awakening when they try to go through a door)? That, and is the thing you weld the door with usable as a weapon?
(Or did I just over hear something about welding doors and assumed it was going to be in the game when it isn't)?
