    DoD 0wnZ j00!! Nuff 54id. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Heh, seriously though, Cs was great, to me its old news, DoD is great and fun, but that type of game play has been done before. NS is diffrent, I say you cant even compare NS to CS cause its like comparing Potates and Strawberrys. Two diffrent kinds of games, I think its a ridiculous argument to have, the only thing these games have in common is hl.

The last time i played cs was last summer, Not even in a public game, just me against two friends on an empty server. We were having a blast and then this guy joined......Speedhack, wallhack, you name it he had it, he totally ruined the wonderful fun we were having. Ive never played cs again.
I have played cs for years since the first version and i have had some fun times, but never again. Kind of makes you despair that there are people like that out there.

I believe that you all have been blinded by this astounding commander feature, assuring yourselves that NS is more team play than CS because there is one guy calling the shots.  This is a myth however.  In CS if you are in a clan, the matches are intense and competitive, much like in an NS match.  Also, saying something to a teammate like, "you CS n00b" has become commonplace.  Change that, I find that while the CS llamas coming to NS are just that; llamas, that CS veterans are quite often the best on the team.

Now I dont really know what the purpose of this post was, I guess it was sort of a justification for my revived love of CS.
(please note that I am still an avid NS fan, and play frequently, probobly three times as much as CS, I'm just making an observation...plus im bored and its 10:30 at night)<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    omg, whatever "you CS n00b"!!!

I played cs, long before most people out there ever even heard of it.
The game simply has no more to offer to me; it got old, gg to old school fun.

The fact is as such, my friend, most people who play CS are quite newbish; because CS directly caters to newbies and people obsessed with some shallow imitation of realism.

There are very few people who play counter-strike (compared to the total number of players) who I would say are quality players, who are skilled, and not prickish.

I quit cs because everytime I went onto a server, it was nothing more then people spamming chat with "OMG you newb you hack omg you sux lololololol" between every round.

It got old, gg when it wasn't a bunch of fools.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    You are funny.

CS is fairly enjoyable on the right servers; namely, those running AdminMod/ClanMod and with admins that actually care about their servers. If I can't get on one of the few NS servers with good pings for me, I'll usually play a round or two of CS. However, the one thing I can't stand is maps that promote either pure DM play (fy_iceworld) or AWP whoring (awp_map). The actually-require-strategy-and-team-tactics maps are alright, however, and good for short breaks, but I don't usually play for very long.

CS is garbage, and I hope one day it is put where it belongs in the TRASH. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

CS is a good mod, you just need to find good servers and stick to them.

I think people who don't like CS die after 20 seconds of the round and then say it's booooring to wait... I'll answer: so don't die and get a skill <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Yes, you need skill to get some fun from CS. And your CS skill can be partially used in NS (for aiming).

I play both mods, they're just different, that's all.

The more people suck at a game, the more people are going to blame certain aspects of it (i.e. AWP).

If you get killed way too much by the AWP do these things

    A)stop crouching

B)strafe a lot and aim for the head

It is your own fault if you die in any game, not the games <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

i can only play CS for a map or two alone. it gets insanely repetitive, simplistic, and--in all eventuality--boring.

a few people made the point that CS is fun with friends. so very true! however, how many friends can you gather at any given time to play some CS with? if you're lucky, probably just one.

Counter-Strike is a great mod whether you people like it or not.

DOD is a great mod, I just don't like it myself.

I played some CS last night for the first time in months. It was great fun.

CS takes more skill then NS. Personally I like them both a lot. The frustration in NS that comes from lack of teamwork is lost less in CS since one plaayer can actually make a difference. It's still like comparing apples and oranges though.

If I could only have one game on my PC it would be CS though, if you don't like it it's either because you don't know how to play it or you play on the wrong (98% or so) servers.

If you are having problems with the community, yet you like the mod, CS: CZ is looking hopeful. Provided that they don't botch the AI, it should end up quite well made.

That this thread hasn't degraded into a stupid, pointless flamewar is probably more indicative of the mindset of the "average" NS forum goer, as compared to the "average" CS forum goer than anything I've ever read or heard. That being said...

    Skill requirement:

    NS < CS < Q3DM-type games

Instant gratification is not found in CS, but rather in instant-respawn DM games... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Tbh, I don't see how people can call CS boring or repetitive...two rounds are hardly ever alike...and I've never gotten a rush in NS that comes anywhere near running frantically from three or four people, trying to pick them off or chip them down at every opportunity.

And stop complaining about the AWP...please?

Like i said earlier its 2 completly diffrent games, and if your so stressed out about cs, its simple, dont play it, you cant possibley compare the 2. I think the NS players going on about how bad cs sucks etc etc etc are seriously hung up on something and need to let it go, cause a ns player bitching and crying about cs is just as bad as a cs player bitching and crying about ns.

I have found that in most other mods, the players dont like CS, its kinda the uncool thing to play as far as other mod players would say...thats how it was on Firearms

Hmm, yeah, the CS community really sucks. It is very mainstream with almost all cybercafes (at least in Southern California) and LAN parties hosting the game. So it is easy to get a lot of lamers.

As for CS as a game, I thought it was one of the greatest FPSs I ever played. I was definately new to me when I first played it. I thought it required teamwork because everyone was very vulnerable to gunfire. Man, when I got good at this game, I was so wrong. CS is a quickdraw game. The fastest gunner wins. I can understand someone who is not that great at it dislike CS or someone who is godly and gets bored from a lack of challenge (my friend being one of them).

I also disagree with CS not requiring skill. I don't want to really want to go into detail here, gonna keep this short, but all you good CS players should know what it takes to dominate.

    Different games.

    Not better, not worse.

    Different.

It's like EQ versus AC versus AO versus DAOC.
  • BrutusBrutus Join Date: 2002-10-20 Member: 1555Members
To each their own. NS is not better then CS and vice versa. One community is not better then the other. I have to laugh when I read people saying one community is more mature then the other.

I don't like CS because well, it's just not any fun to me. It's based so much on individual skills and competition that it's not much of a game anymore, it's a **** comparing contest for preteen griefers who couldn't say an intelligible sentence if their lives depended on it. Personally, I would rather play a good teamplay based game with mature people, and have FUN, than surround myself with -=sUpa-sAiyeN=- and g-sus_killa78 the awp ****.

    NS is fun.

I Think CS is an awesome game, however with the use of wide spread cheating and the lag It's just no fun over the internet, however CS on a LAN is one of the best ways to spend a weekend of your life.

I play CS, NS and have played DOD in the past. I also play ghost recon and rouge spear (I prefer ghost recon to all the other first person shooters out there) The main reason I like NS is that it adds something new to the ffirst person shooter, but I am seeing a lot of the same strats. used in NS over and over, so it is repetitive.

Mods come and go, and the NS mod hasn't been around long enough to say it will still be popular in a year so even trying to say that its better then CS is silly. CS has been around for years, and although some people may have lost interest in it, it is still a great mod.

As far as the community goes, yes, a lot of them can be jerks, but don't even think that that is lacking from NS. I got so abused the first time I played NS that I finially left the server. Why did I get abused? because I couldn't take out 2 skulks by myself was part of it. The commander was freaking!!!!
I see just as many people acting like new players shouldn't be on the server in NS as CS. Its too bad, because in order for a game to stick around and be popular, you have to allow new people to start playing and learn the ropes.

After a few more tries on servers, and not getting very friendly receptions, I decided to make my own server (I run a CS pub as well) and password it so that my local cs users can learn the game without the abuse. I set the password to soemthing easy to guess, and what happens, 2 guys guess it and join the game. No big deal, but then we decide to fool around and do a jetpack rush. These guys start freaking out. Trying to count the resources we had to use and saying we were cheating. We told them we were not, and they wouldn't shut up. (we didn't build anything to defend our base at all and only had what we needed to research jetpacks)
They finially used the skin hack on us becaue they wouldn't belive us when we said we wern't cheating, and that it was my server so I banned them. Why am I bringing this up? because anyone that claims that the NS community is better then CS is wrong. In fact most of the players in NS are former CS players I would guess.

There are just less players playing NS so the numbers seem like its less. Give it awhile and you will log into find people yelling at each other. Its too bad, cause its just a game, and people should play to have fun...

The most important thing with NS and CS is to find a server where the admins don't allow people to act like jerks, but arn't on powertrips. People seem to play better together when they know who you are.

I liked CS in the early betas. I think the best period was around B3-B5.2. That's when the game was much faster and the community hadn't been ruined by all the skript kiddies and other lamers who roam the public servers nowadays. Today it's like Team-DM with a high lamer percentage if you play public. DoD is gaining popularity fast and I'm afraid it will slowly become more and more like CS.
NS is still new and very different from CS, so I hope this will last some time before the ignorant 12 year old fools discover it. No offence for you nice 12 year olds, but in general the typical lame guy is 11-16 years old, probably leaning more towards the early teens.

The thing that killed CS(and is killing DoD even as we speak) was people taking the game to seriously. That's what led lamers to get all worked up and lame, and sheaters to get all worked up and cheat. Hopefully NS will never reach that level, but if things continue the way they are going with everyone complaining every time a new version comes out........
