Is This Dead Lerk Actually Dead, Sir?

or is he just sitting still?
OK, I've searched about this...but I'd like to suggest that the lerk death animation/s be changed. It's not so much anything else than a kind of bug in my opinion. I always go for lerks ahead of fades...but as the two go hand in hand, in the heat of battle I don't usually get to check to see in the top left wether or not I've killed something.

With fades it's ok, they either dissapear or have a pronounced death animation. But with lerks you'll find me shooting an extra clip into the damn things after they've died! The dead lerk looks too much like one just sitting there alive in umbra. Indeed I've seen lerks that have managed to survive death by staying still and being mistaken for a killed lerk.

This is only a minor niggle if anything, and not even noticed by some I'd imagine. However maybe in one of the fine tunings that happen to 1.1, it could be seen to make a dead lerk more....well, dead?

appologies again if this ha sbeen posted, but I couldn't find it in the search

EDIT: sorry, fade on the brain from another thread, I meant lerk deaths, nothing to do with the fade death animation!

The best thing you can do for nwo is just look for blood when you shoot the lerk =/

oh also... if the Lerk isn't moving... Hint hint

as I said, lerks in umbra generally don't move anyway unless you move towards it. Now excuse me for wanting to preserve my life and my ammo supply, but if I'm defending a res point or such like, I don't want to run off just to get ambushed by skulks or fades, and I certainly don't want to waste ammo just so I can bug the commander with ammo calls.

I'd rather not accept tiny niggles in the game, but rather have them erased and improved to make this game better. ta.

Actually, i agree. The death animatons for the lerk are somewhat borked, and i think flayra is aware of it and will probably fix it for 1.1. No worries there.

if the lerk still has his cuteness then he isn't dead, though I do find that a dead or dying gorge has some extreme cuteness

    Hmm
Maybe you can find a Lerk death sound and change it to something really noticable. Like instead of a groan of death you here like a AHHHHHHHHHHHh LERK DIED sound..so..ya.. I'll get flamed because it may be considered changing. It's just a death sound so it shouldn't be a biggy. It can be a funny death sound too hehe..i made some for that god awful mod called CS..lol

The death sound should be changed to a voice saying, with a thick British accent, "This parrot is dead! It is no more! It has ceased to be!"
    Just to avoid any confusion.

Then marines should be allowed to pick up the corpse and smack it on a table to ensure it is dead

I believe this requires a client side patch to kill.

So that and all the other goodies will come in v1.1

ya ns... and i dont mean natural selection har har. ive been getting better at telling when a lerk dies but it definitely needs something more elaborate in the death department.

the skulk damn near does a backflip when it dies. the gorge flattens out. both the fade and onos fall over...

the lerk? the lerk just stops, and its not always obvious. i think the lerk should fall flat on his back with his wings spread out... and then he could let out a little umbra fart puff as his bowels relaxed for the final time hehe.

i checked the .mdl file and the lerk has one showy death animation and one lame one. for some reason i think most people always get the lame one.

lol, I once killed a lerk and the death animation actually didn't play. The lerk just kept sitting there. (I heard the death sound, though, so I knew he was dead )

When you shoot someone prone in real life, how do you know when you've killed him? IMO, this is one of the few advantages lerks actually have, inadvertently gained or not. I'd leave it in considering how weak the lerk class actually is in most cases. Although lerks can do some mean damage, it's only in certain areas or circumstances.
