    there is more to skinning than applying your textures, you also have to UVmap them as it were, I suggest finding tutorials on it, I was never that good at it in Milkshape, although I do know how to do it well in 3DS max. It's a lot of work, and I suggest using checkerboard textures to check for even distribution. And everything that has a texture probably does have it, it's just that it might be restricted to something as small as a few pixels.
