<div class="IPBDescription">Which works better</div> At the very beginning of the game, which is better to defend the base with? Many mines or a few well placed turrets?
You can try booby-trapping your structures, but be warned that the alien has to pretty much step on the mine to set it off. Place the mines on the side of the structure most likely to be attacked. Covering all sides is not cost effective. You'll lose the surprise element after the first skulk or two goes up in flames, so don't count on mines as an end-all defense.
Marines work much better than mines or turrets. However, a few mines on the floor by the IPs can be a game-saver if the skulk rush takes out your marines. If you move the majority of your team out of base early, I'd recommend some light mining to complement your marine(s). Turrets eat up too much of your precious few RP in the early game. It all depends on your opening strategy...
The only place you want turrets is at the hive. It is much more cost-effective to use mines, and have a marine stay at whichever place you need defended.
