I have finally started working on my map. "ns_gateway". Inspired by the science fiction novel "gateway" by Frederick Pohl, and the NS story. I feel that these two stories cross over nicely, and provide a good oportunity for some interesting architeture, gameplay etc...
Some background on gateway:
Gateway which was discovered sometime in the early 2000's, when a probe was sent to explore the backside of the sun - which is never visible from earth.
What the probe found was an abandoned alien space station built upon an asteroid. The space station was a hive like structure...
Shortly after the discovery of gateway the people of earth sent a team of specialists to explore the asteroid/space station. What this team found were 1000's of pod like ships, of different sizes which were for the most part still functioning. They figured out how to activate them, since they were pretty much automatic. The pod like ships traveled at many times the speed of light and would take people to seemingly random places in the univerese. Some trips would last days, others years... So the humans converted the space station and ships to human living standards.
In the book humans never actually meet the aliens. But I think this could be a "what if" the aliens came back to the space station.
I already did the layout on paper, and am about 3 days in to laying the brushes etc in hammer.
Anyway thats the plan, ill post a pic of the top-down layout soon.
