<div class="IPBDescription">Seems like a good idea to me...</div> I was wondering if theres any chance of a single player NS, it seems like kind of a waste to have such a great background story and not using it for more. It would be cool to be able to play through some of the background story for NS and stuff.
(I know the post above sounds newbish, just wondering...)

As for single-player--it's too much like CS for an effective single-player to work. Just install a few bots if you feel like commanding a bunch of brainless marines, perhaps?
You could also wait for Starcraft: Ghost?
Maybe have it take place in Hera.. lay out the entire station. I like that map <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
A training level is more important right now, though.
You could wait for Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. They'res a single player in that.
The only probley with NS having sigle players would be that it would be just like the normal half life single game!
And Flayra doesn't mind if you make a single player MOD for NS, but he won't be doing it himself!

YAY!!! TRAINING MAP YAY!!!!!!!
Have you ever felt such teamwork in another game? Having two skulks watch your back while you build that offense tower, for example... it's a feeling you won't get in a single-player mode unless some SERIOUS AI is developed. Try commanding the curent version of RocketCrowbot. Sure, he says cool things like "rez where i am" but is it really the same? You lose the strategy, you lose the tension (I'll admit HL was extremely tense at some points), you lose what makes NS NS.
trying to get back to your homeworld or something hehe and when you have killed x number of marines you get to
evolve into a lerk and so on.
final map: storming 200 suprised marines as a super onos <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
The order you play is as a marine then alien.(if possiable)
story: Your squad was called to support the surviving marines at the station "DiaV". Because of the large amount of hives built on the DiaV your teleport technolgy is near useless, but it will work at close range. Your team gets teleported into the storage and you get smashed into a crate and nocked out. Your team went on and they set in an ambush and the commander back at the ship saw it. You awaken and the comm tells you to get to the squad called "Nitro" you will walk a bit and will have a cold encounter with a wounded onos, your job is to finish him up, with the shotgun on the floor.
Note: You can do commands as a marine by using the command menu, the comm will give you health only if your below 50 and will only give ammo if you below 50%.
Once you killed the wounded onos you will find a vent and crawl thru it and meet a hatchery with gest eggs everywhere, you know what to do, kill all the skulks before they hatch with you shotgun. after you done go thru a escape hatch and thru the hallway to find the squad.
You will need to get to the engine room to set up a base, you can order the squad around and the comm can send you masages where to go on the mini-map. Once you get there protect the area till all the buildings are done, then the comm chair will be built and a phase gate too.
Note:This will be your pernament base and the phase gate is the only way to travel around the gate(there is a pop-up menu for this)
Your commander will come in moments and you will take ther postion of commander. You have to defend your base from skulks and lerks until the time runs out. You have a limited choice of buildings and weapons. When he comes he will bring a case filled with upgrades so you can construct new weapons.
After that he will take command and your job is to take out the hive in the area. This will be a very dark area and there will be 3 fades at the hive and a bit away from it a res node and the comm will tell you to build.
To be countiuned!
What would also be cool is if at some parts of the games, the marines said, and sometimes, or they say random things at random times, etc...
what would also be good is they had a "campaign" for BOTH sides, (maybe two different mods?), one being a marine, while the other starting out as a skulk.
a single player game would be great.
The fade battle will be hard. There will be 3 phases to this fight and 2 penalty phases.
The fades will have no upgrades and will only blink and claw
phase1- your group will fight the 3 fades and many of them will not survive, You also have to keep them from escaping the room.
Penalty1- Thr fades escape and they will charge at your base and will try to kill your commander. you have to cut them off before they make it,if they do they will destory the chair fast and kill the commander.-end game.
phase2- Once the fades are killed you must take a walk thru many hallways and they would be MANY skulks with leap ready to bite your face.
Phase3- Once you enter the hive room you will meet 2 fades with acid rocket and a gest egg. Kill the gest egg and fight off the fades and do not let them revive. They will respawn in 1 minute each. Once they are killed shot the hive with all your might.
Penalty2-If you forced to kill the repsawned skulks 3 times each they will come back as fades.
Once your done return to base and go to you to another section.
Your next job is to get to the research lab and grab all of the cases and return to base to get new weapons and the arms lab.
On the way you will fight melee fades, spike lerks and skulks.
Each case will be protected by elite fades with blink, melee and acid rocket and they will hit and run.
there are 6 cases in all.
2-for arms lab
1-for armor research
1-for weapon research
1-for weilder
1-for mines
to be countinued
dont you think that could make a great addition? (maybe a bit common though)
The <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> Campaign will be great.
Lets say you did the fade hive and the bac number decreased. that means you start to find a power grid to power the ip and teleport marines and drain that gird. (there is one in the first hive)
back to the story:
Now you have a delima, on the way to sector c2 you must open the door but the power gird for it was destroyed and you must use the old hydrolic(spelling) engine to open the door. You will need to travel to the maintence room and get to the switch. on the way as always you will meet aliens. When you get to the maintence room entrance you notice that the heat level is too high to go thru and there is only 1 maintence engienering protection suit(M.E.P.S). Your commander cannot supply suits because he does not have the blue print and the extra res to make one.
Equeminet for c2 maintence:
M.E.P.S
Shotgun or light machine gun(your choice)
Weilder
knife(later temply replaced by a lever)
When you enter the room you will see alot of pipes and steam in the room and there would be no aliens but this will be a puzzle stage. Your job is to fix all of the problems shown in your mini-map. There would be alot of hazards and there only would be 1 enemey: the turrers. You would have to dodge alot of bullets. There would be a broken pipe puzzle which is a jumping puzzle on giant broken-pipes. After the pipes you would find the lever which replaces your knife and will be used to open doors. You'll need to weild back the lever and back to open doors and there would be so steam puzzle which are puzzles that include jumping, ducking and timing when to run.
Once yoenter the hydrolic controls you will need to weild pipes and open the emgrancy control using the lever (then it breaks).
after the control revealed themselfs throw th switch and exit to the door thru the vents and pickup your armor.
Anyway, it would be great if the single player game was longer than just one game, maybe another single player marine game can consist of the marines finding the origination of the kharaa, maybe a planet or a platform. some human group sends a battle ship (space ship i mean) to attack the place, and they set up defense platforms in between the cruiser and the station/planet so that they can block any kharaa that get try to board the cruiser. there would be two or three commanders, one on the station/planet, one in the defense platforms (optional), and one on the cruiser, (or just one on the cruiser, so that it doesn't conflict with the game programming or require more maps for something so minor). in the "defense cluster" (my current name for the defensive patforms that protect the ship), you have some turrets or usable mgs, (requiring a new weapon), and the point is so that lerks dont get on the ship and infest it, which if they do, they you must return to the cruiser, (which can be done at any time), and destroy the infestation before it grows larger. The whole game will play differently depending on the player manages his forces, (he is a general, but can appoint a "bot commander" anytime he pleases, so that things can be built while the player is out fighting). spawning portals can removed so that the player only gets one life, but he can call in for more support, which will arrive by teleportation or by transport.
this is what i have for a secondary possible single player game.

Single player could be fun, and would give the marines a bit more character.

that all depends on how you look at games, for example, single player games are much better at giving a story or background, hence the reason why the final fantasy series are one of the most liked rpgs ever, (while people like other games, this is just to put a point). an internet final fantasy would probably be a screwed up thing because then there would be no real story (like diablo 2, which has pretty much no story, but is played a lot over the internet). im just trying to point out that since ns already seems to have its own background story, you could make a single player game with story in it, (and if they really wanted, make a multiplayer version seperate from the normal ns, which is more story based, but that might get wierd). hopefully i proved a point.
if they make single games, i wonder which one will be better?
the <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> game or the <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> game?

i do have to agree with you there, although if they made it completly rts, they would probably have to make a mod for a new game, (like star craft, and blizzard is not a company fond of editing), although it would be fun to have completly rts or completly fps, or mixed. it will take a long time for the single player game to be at its best, but all we can do is support the makers, (who knows who they might end up being?).
And kinda rework to fit the AI in the original code, instead of just hooking another DLL.
eh my 2 cents...if we get some of the Fan Fic ppl writing up a story, we'd have a great SP Mod here.

that is totally agreeable with, or at least i agree with you, in all respects, difficult yes, but most entertaining if done properly, which it most likly will be. if the bots come with the game, then maybe multiplayer bots will be fixed, although Cheeseh is working on that with Rocket Crowbot, which i think was first used with hl mod Rocket Crowbar, hence the Crowbot.
anyway, hopefully it will be a good game. although i do wonder if they will listen to our suggestions?
