I'd like to know if support for marine v marines will come about any time soon.
I hear people go "it'd be the death of ns", however imagine, how public games will be based on......
<b>teams will be more even, both teams have the same upgrades, same skill requirements to be good</b>
Therefore, games will last longer, extreme, close, commanders can pit themselves against other commanders where the skill <b>TRULY</b> shows itself.
It'd bring out the teamwork in the public play also.
I'd actually put money on NS becomming the #2 half life mod if such came out within a few months. The reason it isn't already is because of the alien side it's dull, most consider it like running about with a knife in counter strike lol.

you're wrong on so many levels and i don't even know where to begin with.
lol, quite clearly your not that far into natural selection tactics in online play to comment
do you guys honestly think all he has to do is add 10 minutes of code, but hes just too damn lazy?
the man deserves a break - and, it will be out when its ready, no sooner.
complaining it isn't out yet, won't do anyone any good.

I know they're busy, however, I'm simply asking them "is it going to happen", if it is, i'm setting up my own clan and such.
As for the rest of you, shush.. your clearly inexperienced <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

okay, let me begin...
how about commanding?
2 commander on a map... dropping buildings... how would they know who are their men and how would their men know what is their building to build? what if the enemy team built another's structure? How to distinct these structures more easily?
<b>answer: lots of coding</b>
what about mapping then?
Most of us are tired of identical flippage maps like 2fort or the likes. And you can't have normal maps because 3 hives + 1 marines start doesn't really give out a good marine vs marine match. I mean, where are the teams supposed to start to have a fair beginning?
<b>answer: lots of mapping</b>
Well now how about gameplay?
This will be basically CS because you're just gunfighting each other with the same guns and same stuff... so it's all about accuracy and rush... And marines don't really need to worry about expanding because all they needed to do is move onto another's base and kill their spawn and CC...
And siege, wow this is one problematic thing. We know siege kills enemy building... but what about marine buildings? it will be pretty much confusing...
<b>answer: lots of coding and balance issue and decision making</b>
I could probably go on for more but I'm pretty tired... The fact is that these problems are enough to bother the devs and to think that there are more immenent (sp) things to be dealt with like exploits and bugs in the existing NS already.
Marines vs Marines or Aliens vs Aliens could surely be fresh to gameplay, but I bet you many people who loved NS from the beginning is going to go back to Alien VS marine because that's where the heart and core really is for NS (IMO). I for one liked how the gameplay and weapons vary from both team and spreads a wide variation from game to game to get this game going well. M vs M or A vs A will get pretty boring soon after it's release I think.
And the wrongest comment from your post was how you stated alien was dull because it's like running with a knife on CS... I think... no, I assume 90% of the alien players <b>do not</b> think that way because they really enjoy climbing on walls, creeping out the marines with chuckles and biting them to death with those little teeth they have. and to think about all the cool alien abilities like blink and spore and webbing... not to mention xenocide and babblings... How can aliens not be cool?
Now I'll want to see what you have in reply.
Calling the rest of us (well, excluding me even) inexperienced is perhaps the most obvious thing to show you don't got a clue.
Fact is many of these people hung around here even before the game went beta (i'm pretty sure) and many more were here before it was released (I for one joined sometimes before release) and Many many more dedicated many, many many hours on the game after it went public.
I can't really see how these people can be classified as <i>inexperienced</i>.
I may be inexperienced, but I have played the game from day 1 everyday at least 3 hours per day (usually 5 hours, and sometimes even peak to 13 hours without resting). I would want to see how you classify as experienced players...
<i>yes i'm a freak</i>
lots of weapons, classes, and motars! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
hmmm....inexperienced <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
you think too highly of yourself
i think that someone got hoed when he was playin as aliens...and how he always sticks to marines and doens't want aliens because someone can't use aliens and experience the joys of being aliens.
I hate games when the opposing sides are the EXACT same IE:americas army
IE:age of empires IE:warcraft1-2 the list goes on....
Would you still play starcraft if it was only terran v terran?
Sure marine v marine would bring out skill....but kill strats and teamwork.
The fun is in using the skills the enemy doesnt have to outsmart them...and try not to be outsmarted.
are you not forgetting, they've got all these "balance" and "mapping" issues with marine v aliens
as for marine v marine, no it'd not be the death of NS, the tactics will be MUCH more diverse, building and advancing at the right time and knowing what the enemy is doing, requiring 100* more teamwork and skill (brain wise) than in any 8 guys vs. 8 guys shoot-em-up (quake/counterstrike/tfc etc.)
I vote on having the ns team putting more time into perfecting the netcode and game balance then a new nifty inner mod to a game based on marine vs alien contact....
The game is already good, dont f*#% with it and turn it into a tard fest like counter-strike.
Would that be the same Defcon / Kadan who was banned from BlueYonder?
That was truly a tragic loss to that community. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Hmmm, I suppose so, as I've only been playing every day since day one...How long have you been playing?
I don't see a "playtester" by your name...
As for marines vs marines..there was a phrase that was used a lot around here..
"When it's done.."
Apologies for double post btw, I'm a bit useless with forums..
like 2.0 or something!...lets just iron out marine vs alien FIRST before you start asking about completely new stuff...
AvA and MvM will be featured in version 2.0. They'll be full fledged gamemodes akin to the current AvM gameplay, will have new maps, a new balance, and quite possibly at least somewhat asynchronus teams, at least in terms of modelling and coloring.
If you want to discuss each of this, feel free to open a thread in the I&S forum, but rest assured that no matter what you say, these modes <i>will</i> get in, so you'd better get used to it and start thinking about making constructive remarks.
I'm <span style='color:red'>locking</span> this thread for flamyness.
