Animated Gif Question

Is there a way to fix this...
See the avatar under my name? I made that using HLMV and the 'Make a Screenshot' option.

Anyways, I had the background on the Model Viewer set to white. I don't mind white, but I made this for my site, and its doesn't look correct compared to my other Topic Icons - see for youself, http://www.net-fool.com

Is there an easier way to change each of the frames/pictures in the GIF so the background is trasparent, other than going picture by picture tracing around the Skulk by hand?

Thanks

I should also note, I could just remake it to match the color of the back ground on my site, except I'd have to do it like 10 times.
My site has like 10 or 11 different themes the user can choose from. So a transparent background would be the easiest.

Thanks again.

Easy will be determined by what your graphics editor is. If you have Photoshop 6 or higher, it is relatively simple because it comes with ImageReady. What is your editing application?

PS 7

Never really used IR. I'll play with it a bit. Any tips?

OK ... go in to IR and open your file. It will automatically make a "film strip" so you can see each frame, as well as a layer for each frame. Go in to each LAYER, not frame, and do the following:

1. In your menus at the top choose: Select – Color Range
2. Click on the WHITE portion and set the FUZZINESS to as high as possible WITHOUT it selecting any of the skulks FEET.
3. Press OK
4. The WHITE portion ONLY should now be selected
5. Press DELETE and your keyboard
6. Repeat for each layer
7. When you done, test it in your browser so see if it looks correct. There is a button that does this for you in the FILE menu – Preview In Browser or the like (I don’t have IR at work so I’m going from memory)
8. If all is well, choose Save Optimized As … and MAKE sure you have TRANSPARENCY on or your image will be filled by whatever the matte color is.
9. That should be it. If I missed something, post here when you get stuck.

This will work fine unless you start putting your gif over darker colors. I would not recommend placing it over anything that is darker then 35% black.

Have Fun!

If this will go over darker colors here is what you can do:

Between steps 5 & 6:

· Select LAYER – MATTING – DEFRINGE
· Set your WIDTH to 1
· Press OK

This will remove any light edges left from the whit BG and replace it with the color of the pixel next to it.

I got it, thank you.

Notes:
I didn't see step one in IR, I found it in PS 7 though. Does IR have that one?
I also set the fuzziness as low as it could go (0). I tried the highest one and it would select areas within the Skulk, such as some light spots on it claws. So the low option selected what I wanted.

Thanks again, I would've been lost w/o your help.

As I said, I was going from memory so it may not be entirely accurate.

I also revised the tut above to reflect that you had to make sure and NOT go so high as to select the feet!

Any-hoo ... glad you got what you wanted and I didn't have to do it myself!
