[BUG] Disappearing Survival Knife (Stable 52328) (Edited To Add Details)

I created a combat knife. I was using the knife to collect things in the kept forest, and suddenly I didn't have my knife at all. I couldn't find it anywhere and needed to create another one.
I have just had another one vanish; I'm not sure precisely when it disappeared, though I did have to go through a kelp forest in order to reach Pod 3.
Do the Stalkers steal your survival knife now? Or am I just coming across a weird-ass bug somewhere?
EDIT: Again, the knife disappeared on me. Again, it was in the kelp forest. However, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the stalkers; I let a few attack me deliberately. The knife did not vanish until I scanned a fragment, upon which time I happened to notice that my knife had disappeared randomly from my inventory, in particular from my hotbar (which only had a few things in it as it was early game). I don't know what specific moment it disappeared, unfortunately. Just that one moment it was there, and another it wasn't.
I will be starting a new game (now that I'm no longer rushing through to be able to test things out) and, should I find exact details of what I do/did for it to happen (if anything) I will add it below.
EDIT 2: I observed carefully this time. As far as I can tell, the reproduction can be done this way.
Get out your knife.
Swim through the Kelp Forest with the knife in your hand.
At some point, the knife may vanish from your hand, but it will remain in the bar.
If left out long enough after having 'phased', the knife simply vanishes into thin air, being removed from inventory altogether.
This only seems, so far, to be happening while in the Kelp Forest while the knife is in your hand. I have been able to swap items and not have it disappear, however, and it seems as long as the knife is not in your hand, it does not pull the disappearing act.

Comments
The only strictly definitive information I can give on the bug is that thus far, it only happens in the kelp forest [EDIT: So much for that; see below], and only when the knife is actually in hand. Extended (at least 5-10 minutes) swimming around through various kelp beds without the knife in hand resulted in no disappearance, whereas when I reequipped it, within 2 minutes of swimming through the kelp, the knife again was gone from my inventory.
Likewise, even extended swimming around in other zones holding the knife resulted in no disappearances, even while deliberately swimming through the grasses at the seabed in order to create a similar 'visual interference'.
I like to imagine a stalker swimming up and quietly picking the knife out of my hand before zooming away.
While I would like to confirm this (and have to admit it'd be an awesome bit of enemy AI), I unfortunately can't.... as I just had my knife pull the disappearing act while in the grassy plains as well. I came back from a paused game, and almost immediately had it phase out of my hand and then vanish altogether. And no creepvine anywhere around.
So I am apparently corrected: your knife *can* disappear in other zones as well, randomly. It just took a lot longer for whatever internal trigger makes it happen to... happen.
After the recent August Stable update, I had started a new game and was admiring the new changes. Among those were going into Kelp Forests and getting just a couple Creepvine Samples and Seed Clusters for recipes - I totally enjoy the fact that the CSC are far more logically designed, in that we don't need 15 of them anymore at once now...
Anyways while cutting Samples I was sideswiped by a Stalker and in a panic I started to swim away. I turned my camera back as I switched to movement key S, so that I could swim backwards and see if it was still chasing me. Indeed it was! I kept swimming backwards for nearly two minutes, testing to see when it would give up - I was in awe that the Stalker was *still* stalking me after all this time. I finally noticed I still had the Survival Knife in my hand and pressed the hotkey to put it away... and as soon as I did, the Stalker finally broke off and decided to return back home.
This behavior has likely been around for a while, but this was the first time that I actively noticed it. It'd be fun to see (in the future) what other creatures would do if they had distinct reactions based on what you're doing or actively holding, like the Stalkers do.
Swimming with a knife out?!? I bet you run with scissors, too?
Well d'uh. How else am I going to catch the angry bear with his paw caught in a six-pack container?
But I always remember to wear latex gloves so I won't have to worry about germs.
Safety first, after all.
