Base buildier items can no longer cut through land ???

Looks like you must use the terraformer to clear land obstructions in order to place base items with the builder.
The builder item wont go green anymore if your item conflicts by touching the land. Can't build unless totally clear.
I have been using the builder to tunnel through mountains, and make cool platforms that are half buried in hillsides.
It really makes the base building more fun and creative. You cant get the same effect via the terraformer.
Devs: Will this be going back to the way it was?
I'm still playing the experimental version.
