Steam is useless so asking here instead.

A while ago Steam forcibly added a new folder type to my list called "VR" and moved Subnautica out of my "Simulation" folder and into this new one.

I do not now nor shall I ever purchase a VR set. Crap gives me headaches, yo.

I tried contacting Steam support and, predictably, they about as useful as a meter maid.

The only way I could kill this stupid "VR" folder that Subnautica is now trapped in was to uninstall and hide Subnautica entirely from my games list, which I do not enjoy.

Hopefully you find folks can come up with a better solution, please?

Add it back to your simulation category.

I have to ask something really stupid. How do you get a simulation folder? For games I own my only sort categories are: Recent, Software, VR, Music, Installed (All)

It is, just only with those 4 categories you see now. I wish it was an option to sort it by Steam category, but then there are lots of games with multiple categories (but then, you can have them listed multiple times, so...)
