Game freezes when starting a new game [33431 Jul-2016]

I just got subnautica and every time I try to start a new game it freezes. I've tried to start a new game 3 times and each time it's frozen in a different spot. The first time it froze on the loading screen, the second time it froze on the "presents" screen, and the third time it froze when the character got into the chair. All of my drivers are updated and windows is updated, and I've let it sit for a half hour on each of them, but it still doesn't work. I did everything in the troubleshoot too including reinstalling the game.
