Diamond knife can scratch arrows on walls in caves and wrecks

It would be nice to be able to inscribe arrows on the walls of caves and wrecks. In time-honored spelunking mode, the arrows usually would point toward the exit, but the player could point them in any direction. Further, perhaps the ordinary dive knife is hard enough to scratch cave walls but not the walls of wrecks. On the other hand, the diamond-hardened survival knife could scratch any surface. This capability would supplant the (broken-at-the-moment) dive reel in helping players retrace their steps.

Interesting idea. I like it. But what would you do if you wanted to get rid of the scrapes?

Terrain destruction, though. It sounds like it might have the potential to be gamebreaking like the terraformer.

It should be impossible to get rid of a mark (unless the mark is in the stone and you use the terraformer -- great idea!). However, the player could just make a few extra slashes through the arrow. It could work somewhat like deconstructing an object: put the cursor over an arrow, press "E", and the software changes the arrow to a scratched-out arrow.

Or for the ultimate (probably-not-worth-dev-time) the player could call up an interface like an Etch-a-Sketch tablet, trace out the desired pattern, then click <Etch It> on the interface.

If multi-player ever does get implemented, the scratches should be permanent in the terrain (stone or ship wall) for all players.
