I found the wreck in the Koosh? zone. I'd anchored my tether before exploring and then became a snack for the Bone Sharks.
I respawn in the lifepod with my tether still attached! I then began my long trek through several zones and amazingly the tether line slowly frees itself from the sea floor.
I finally get back to the wreck and manage to untether myself.
