Crab snakes stopped spawning in jelly shroom caves?

Recently went back into the jelly shroom caves after having not been down their in a while to get some crab snake eggs and I noticed after traversing the majority of the cave they aren't spawning. I don't know what caused this, I did go down there with sonar and pinged the shit out of it so maybe sonar caused them to not spawn? Otherwise I don't know the cause. I also noticed some weird stuttering that seems above average for this game.

Recreate
  1. play the game for a while
  2. go to shroom caves
  3. ping with sonar
  4. observe no crab snakes

I did try to reload the game and then go back but to no avail.
