You could then add other modules to complement this such as base modules that connect to the anchor cables further down, or allow you to anchor directly to your sea bed base?

maybe we can add a control room for driving too
kind of defeats the idea of having the habitation modules. Agreed, it might be fun to incorporate the life-pod into the habitation modules at some stage (connecting it via tubes or something like that), but I don't think a whole new base building branch should come out. For that, we have the habitation modules
