Ns Maps

locations etc...
How does EVERYONE except me know exactly where everything is on the maps. I've been playing for like a week and a half. I'm not sure if that qualifies me as noob, but i still don't know where "cargo hold 2," or "mess hall" is. Just wondering if these people play NS for hours on end or what. BTW, are there map guides or anything of that sort? Sorry if this is the wrong topic, but more people go to this one rather than new player.

The location of where your at is usally on the bottom left on your screen.

Im gonna try to make it so players can say "%l" and it will replace it with they are from.
I auctually think Flayra should add something like that so players dont have to type where there at but oh wel.

Some maps I know the locations of, but hardly all.

As for the playing for hours on end, well, yes How can you not?

Cargo Hold 2: Damn, I know this one, but it won't come to me, I'm thinking NS_Nothing....

Mess Hall: Central piviot point, but I'm unsure on the map name for this one.

I'm in the same boat as you Deadblank. I don't know the maps yet ... I'm getting there though. Been playing a couple weeks. I decided to make some overhead maps to print out and have near me during play so that I could learn the routes between different areas better. Several other people have made maps as well. You can get mine from the link in my sig.

I've been playing since day one and i'm still learning the maps. I can find my way around all of them, but i still dont know the fastest way between point A and point B usually. Some of the more played maps i've learned better than others (i know eclipse very well, barely understand hera)

It's very much like CS on this aspect, only there's one suitable name for each location (find it at the bottom left of your screen). "he's in the apartment" is now translated to "marine headed for sewer hive" or "watch out at Horseshoe!", etc. It's all map memorization, really. It'd be convenient for someone to take a 2d map and label it for all those strategists out there, but mostly you can pick it up by playing a lot.

Nancy and Tanith still confuse me sometimes.
I can find my way from point A to point B in Caged and Nothing.
I feel pretty confident in Eclipse and Hera.
Bast is the only map I think I know 100%.

About locations, this can be tricky, especially if you're still learning the map's layout. I mean, I know Bast, but I didn't know the name of the cool "N" corridor until a few days ago. And it doesn't really help when many of the maps have locations with very similar names ("Maintenance" and "Generator" come to mind).

Just keep playing the maps and learn the general layout, then figure out the best routes and the vent system, then you can worry about the exact names of the location. Of course, there are some locations that just stick in your mind--I mean, how many maps have an Atmospheric Processing or a Holoroom or a Triad Generator?

Or a Room with Things, or a Forboding Antechamber, for that matter.

I always found "Room with Things" and "Foreboding Antechamber" in ns_nothing none too helpful with actually describing the location. I still laugh when I see someone is parked out in "Room with Things" on my hivesight...

"Please, I need some health in the room with things!"

    "Alright alright, which one?"
