Can't eat in experimental or normal release

Not sure if this is a steam problem or subnautica but I'll describe it.
I was playing on a windows 7 machine just fine then I went out to sea and loaded subnautica up on my mac laptop which I have bootcamp windows 7 on. On my laptop I wan't able to eat anything. I tried reassigning the "use" inputs but still no go, is that the thing to do for eat? Now that I'm back home I can't eat on my normal windows 7 pc either. Maybe I have my inputs messed up? Can anyone list the default assignments for me?
I already tried uninstalling steam and then reinstalling steam and subnautica but it was a no go.
