Making NS3?

I was wondering since the CDT is now working on NS2 is it possible to for a 3rd party to make ns3? On their own engine? Unknown worlds has copy right on "All artwork, sounds, audio, screenshots, text and code in Natural Selection, Zen of Sudoku and Natural Selection 2 and on this site are Copyright © 2013 Unknown Worlds Entertainment, Inc." from copyright policy on bottom of web page

So is that possible?

They're actually working on Call of Duty Black Ops 3. Running on Sparks 2

I wonder if NS2 was a big enough commercial and creative succes for UWE to consider making NS3 (one day).
    Any dev care to comment?

The answer is obvious looking at Subnautica and Future Perfect on the way.

Would like to see another NS-like though. Not necessarily a remake or made by UWE. But another game in the same type.

i think ns2 did reasonably well sales wise, they kept the game going for quite a while, we seen a couple of expansions to but in the end whilst it was successful it was no CS or TF2 and at some point the devs have to start working towards another payday.

Also i think UWE realized that making a competitive ambitious and original game like ns2 is hard work and thats why they wanted a break from it with subnautica. At some point i have no doubt ns3 will happen. Well unless uwe can find iis killing floor or l4d.

on a different yet still game related note. I am keeping everything crossed in the hopes of eventually seeing an incubation remake/ sequel from someone.

You can buy the game on gog.com in the battle isles game pack. One of the greatest games of all time imo.

When a company begins / can afford to sell its game 1 dollar, that means it sold well.

well it was something like 5 years ago the game launched, games 5 years old tend to cost very little. Also its a niche game from an indie company made on a shoe string budget and not an AAA title with millions and millions invested in it. So relatively it did very well.

Maybe but the game was officially barely released 1 year before the first Humble Bundle. And they did that lots of times. It proves that they were comfortable in their turnover. Which is a really nice thing.

A few comments here seem a little dismissive of the OP's question. Plenty of IP's are worked on by multiple developers. Call of Duty comes to mind (Treyarch,Infinity Ward & Sledgehammer). Natural Selection 2 gave birth to NS2 Combat, from Faultline games. So, yes, technically a third party could create NS3, but only with the approval of the IP holders (Unknown Worlds)... Not that I'd like to see it happen.

No chance that proper development will even start before Future Perfect is released.

The yearly CoD seems to have broken peoples brain and they expect a new iteration out every year or so. I can't see NS3 happening any time in the next 5 years.

Back to OP, I guess if you came up with some epic proof UWE would give it a look, after all its all about the money right? :)

If they ever do an NS3 I hope they do something really new and doesn't just stick with the "1/3 new, 1/3 improved and 1/3 old" idea. It's strange NS2 had no new (playable) lifeforms when you think of it. The concept is that the Kharaa is continually evolving and that the bacteria "assimilates" whatever lifeform it encounters. The Kharaa bumped into humans in NS1, so why didn't we see "bacteriarized" humans in NS2?

Cause humans aren't that special when it comes to combat efficiency without the brain power and weaponry, we are kinda worthless without our toys. So we wouldn't really make good soldiers in Kharaa terms of service :P

a 3rd robotic race would have been awesome.. although i have no idea how that would balance in 3 teams on 1 map or 2 random teams?

Just need to add the Protoss to NS2... (Topross? Prosott? Some kind of a knockoff...)

NS2 could have three teams, Alien, Marine and Forum Dwellers.... large scale maps and vehicles. I want to see a gorge riding an Ono's into battle!

In all seriousness if I was UWE I would make a FPS DoTA/NS2 hybrid. F2P with skins/heroes to buy. <©™ to ME, 25% cut of sales, thank you I'm here all week :P >

Gorge is perfect for Moba, just imagine his kharaa powers

MOBAs are at the height of their popularity at the moment, and big devs are starting to make team-based FPMOBAs like Overwatch and Battleborn. Sadly I think it might be too late for the NS universe to jump on that bandwagon of dollarinos.

There is actually a LOT that NS needs before it can be the AAAgrade big shiny milky cash cow we all believe it can be.

Our best bet as a community is to mod the shit out of NS2. If you think you know what NS3 should look like, make it so.

Assimilated humans could bring their technology to the Kharaa. Storywise. What I'm saying is Gorges with jetpacks.

Gnaw in Awesomenauts is essentially a Gorge in a Moba
He spits acid and build plants that attack enemies

That game is full of references, so I am pretty sure that the resemblance is not coincidental
The only difference is that he can bite and he can't heal

big devs are starting to make team-based FPMOBAs like Overwatch and Battleborn.

Overwatch is nothing like a moba, why do people keep saying this? There are no npc's for starters. There is no economy, no experience points etc.

Overwatch is a pretty traditional class-based FPS, not unlike TF2 or dirty bomb.

NS2 is far more like a moba than Overwatch is.

Honestly, I think NS2 can totally work like a MOBA, it is like it now:

    *lane block
    *upgraded abilities
    *XP?

Holy crap, did I just describe NS:Combat?
