Possiblity to switch game modes option?

By this I mean say I'm playing in freedom mode but decide I wanna switch to survival mode or if I'm insane enough hardcore. Minecraft has such a function, several other games as well, like Space Engineers. I say this because if I wanna play in survival I have to start a new game and lose the progress I made in the freedom game which is sort of a dampener. So is there a possibility that this sort of function will be added to the game later or is this suggestion/wish just wishful thinking?
