Missing Executable?

In the last few updates, the game has become unplayable. When I press play, Steam says "failed to start game (missing executable)." Earlier, it seemed to be only the experimental updates that cause this, but now after the latest update even the normal updates make it impossible to open the game. My antivirus also freaked out about trying to start the game, but the game won't run even if I stop my antivirus. Any ideas about what's going on?

Which Anti-Virus program are you using?

Try disabling your Anti-Virus, then repair using Steam and try again with your AV still disabled.

I'm using avast, and apparently the issue was that every time I tried to start the game avast would delete the .exe because it thought it was a virus or something... so I just added a million exclusions to avast's scan list and now it works. Thanks for helping, I was really looking forward to the new updates, the game's looking so nice.

Is there any logs in your antivirus saying which virus it thought it was?

Probably heuristics detection or a local setting caught it. Most likely marked as "gen" (generic).

There was no scan log because it was Avast deepscreen instead of a normal scan, but the message that pops up is that the program thinks the actual Subnautica.exe is a virus and the type is "FileRepMalware" and then it deletes the .exe.
