Snap-to vertex issue

<div class="IPBDescription">Why does it jump?</div>I'm trying to use the pencil to add a vertex on a line on the edge of an extruded room.

Everywhere else when I draw with the pencil it snaps to the grid coords just fine. This one particular vertex I need to add however will jump over by 2 grid segments (more if my grid is set more fine) and refuses to snap a straight line down for me. The vertex it wants to snap to turns orange instead of the typical blue. If I simply pick the pencil tool and run my cursor down the edge, the orange dot will show up as I hover over, however the select tool does NOT show any existing vertex.

What in the world is going on here? My first thought was that it was trying to snap to the middle of the line but I zoom back and it's not even close to the middle. I even tried turning off the snap to grid to no avail.

In this screenshot you can see the mouse is quite far from the highlighted orange point, but the snap to grid option is off. If I switch to the arrow "select" tool, it doesn't show anything there on the line.

That is a 'midpoint' vertex spark is trying to create as it says even on the bottom of your screenshot. If it didn't look like the middle, maybe there is another point on that line or it's just the angle of view with the distortion that makes it look like it's not the middle. Just create it there and move the vertex where you want it as spark is pretty fond on finding the midpoint of a line and will show it as much as it can. Go with it and move the vertex after it is created.
