Optimization on low-end systems

my spec is the following:
Intel duo E6400 2.13 ghz
nvidia 8800gt
5gb ddr3 RAM
1680x1050
but i even toned it down to 1280x1024
all settings off/low
ingame I only get ~30 fps
I just installed win7 64bit ulit
got the newest graphics driver
and the game ran better on patch 228 with 1680x1050
did I miss something?
please help me to run the game propperly, even though my system is outdated.
