Mankind took a giant leap in evolution back in 1993 with the discovery of God. I mean Carmack. Errmm, I mean DOOM. Yeah that's it.

And mankind is about to make another evolution. I hope I get claws shooting out of my hands. Or at least the optic blast thingy...

Then you could do signature special moves and have Wolverine as your rival for Jean Grey's love?

I have read about theories that state that broadening the genepool by helping the 'weak' could actually improve us as a whole.
For example, some of the genes that make you a mathematical genious can also make you autistic - so by helping autistic people, we preserve a gene that could leap us to our next Einstein. Or Carmack.

The notion about social help polluting the gamepool, or Social Darwinism, is by the way pretty dangerous; Hitler justified the Shoah with it.

In any case, I knew a guy with 6 toes. Nobody teased him, and it's not like it changed your life. Wonder why they didn't chop 'em off at birth though.

I am infact the dread pirate roberts

But on evolution what we have to conisder is the technology aspect that the human race is throwing in, although not genetic evolution it is in some way an advancement of the human body. Examples being bionic implants (such as a working bionic eye that somebody posted a topic on here ages ago) full body mechanical suits that the US army have tested that allow people to caryy 20 tiems there body weight and run twice as fast etcetc.

The human race race is naturally evolving too slow for its liking so I wouldn't be surprised to see bio implants become commonplace before I die.

    Deus Ex anyone?

Humans stopped evolving in most first world countries long ago. It is quite simple really. I mean when was the last time you saw a physically fit male with 30 children simply because he was phyiscally fit? Natural selection is no longer at work in the human race. The weak males have the posibility to have just as many children as the strong. So now humans are simply going to level out. Eventually we will all have the same to close skin color things like that because natural selection has ended.

EDIT: Some areas of the world, IE primitive of poor areas do not apply here. And also in what greedo said, if a change is made it will be gone in a generation, there is no factor that would allow it to gain dominance, so as a whole the human race is no longer evolving.

Eventually, Natural blondes will die out, there already on the endangered species list, this is how humanity is evolving into a perfect species, no more dumb blondes <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Um...yeah...ooooookay. You have been around for what, how long, what is your age? Just because humans live such a short time to notice evolution in its full doesn't mean that evolution has stopped. This is almost like saying the grand canyon was never carved from a river over millions of years of time because in one human lifespan the grand canyon hardy changes.

Who says we are helping the weak ppl worldwide?.................
As always, the people that lives in the first world countries thinks they are alone in the world. Around the world, on 3rd world countries, people dies everyday because they are weak. Even if there was a cool medical system in the whole world, evolution hasnt stopped..... Evolution will never stop, actually the human is just too intelligent for the natural world, and the evolution itself because the humans can "improve" themselves, bythemselves =P

Also, who said 'strong' has to be taken literally here? Even today, intelligent, charming, attractive men have, I hate to admit it, but it's true, better chances of reproducing than, say, we.

    Who says that isn't evolution?

Longtooth was right in that people are helping each other out too much and natural selection is disappearing amoung humans. Nowadays, everyone seems to be given the possibility to breed (even -cough- retards -cough-) Yes, this "kindness" will be the downfall of the human race, sad as it is. Anti-natural-selectors such as welfare laws are going to make the human race really...crappy. Good thing I won't be alive to see it...

Sure, if we don't wipe ourselves out in a war or due to pollution within 500 years.

Evolution still happens, there is no way to stop it. A million years ago the individuals best suited to bring up offspring and providing for them survived, and had their genes passed on. Today is different only in that it's not just the quick of feet or strong of body that can provide for their children. The hunter gatherer does not reign supreme anymore, it's he who can get the best education, and so acquire the best job. However, a stereotypicall 400 pound gorilla with a brain the size of a pea may well attract a woman, and provide for her and offspring (if any) because there are still opportunities for such examples of the humans race to survive and eke out a living. However, our whole community over the decades has been moving away from manual labour. 80 years ago factory workers comprised a huge workforce in a country. Nowadays, the office worker reigns supreme. 400 years ago, farming was a hugely laborious task and a lot of people took it up. Nowadays it's mostly automated.

As the priorities change, so does the race. Sorry about going on, but I have discussed this long and hard in real life with friends.

This is real life, just a different medium. As for the evolution it has ended. Evolution depends on survival of the fittest and that is no longer happening. The amount of money does not determine how many children you have. Poor people can get on welfare and have a million that will all generally survive. Survival of the fittest controls evolution and in todays world the weak and the fit survive.

we probably are still evolving, just differenttraits and idff ways

my fav theory is that we will eventualy split into 2 distinct races, now that would be funny ;D

Genetic engineering may father many very different human races.
