Main menu has no text - just see background image

<b>FIXED!</b> Final solution: Delete C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Natural Selection 2\ns2\shaders folder, then revalidate steam files <i>(right-click --> properties --> local files --> verify integrity of game cache)</i>

I can hear the item menus click when I move my mouse over them, but I can't actually see any of them.
Windows 7, GTX 480, latest drivers.
[Edit] I can't join any games either. When I join a friend's game, the screen goes black for a second, then it makes a sound and brings me back to the main menu.

So far, still no luck.
