No idea
Ok so i purchased the game and i can find servers, however joining servers. Nah apparently not.

I click a server, tries to load. Times out every time, then sometimes it goes to a black screen after it and then times out, one time i got in THEN it timed out.... Basically i keep timing out.

Are there any ports to forward, i use a BT Homehub 2.0 in the UK and that ###### is damn annoying about having to forward ports to get anything to ###### work.

Any help guys? i genuinely cant play it yet :(

If you use a BT homehub rather than a Be* thomson they're prone to the same error as well apparently, though depending on which one you may be locked out of the options you need to fix it. The most consistent workaround then is to wait 1-2 minutes after you refresh the server list before you connect to any servers, the timeout will happen before you connect to a server then and you shouldn't have any more problems.

BT HomeHub fix on that doesnt work, waiting no matter what amount of time yields same errors.
And is this really the case? Also i'm sorry but i dont think i'll be able to put up with this.

If there are any ports i'll forward them but come on, this is getting a bit rediculous.

I found it a bit difficult to join servers with a few slots open, if you keep trying you usually get in (i'm guessing its the key authentication? pass before allowed to join a server??) either way, an easy way is to go into the console "~" key and type Retry and press enter, it will try to connect to the last server you had tried to join --- keep retying until it gets through :)

That seems to be normal though. in a sucessful join, the screen goes black for a few seconds after precaching, then youre in the ready room, the problem is still timing out.

The black screen prior to RR is, as far as i know, normal, what is not normal are the crashes or timeouts.

I heard it was something to do with the BTHomeHub, yea it is ######e i use it but i lack any other one to use, some games like Killing floor i gotta reconnect then i can play.

Same with NS2, but there was a fix its just when i actually get to going in the CMD and running it it doesnt work, you're supposed to be able to get inside and change the game ports

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=playe...p;v=a8YiopTocPk

I can't connect to telnet 192.168.1.254 (I'm sure that that is my IP don't worry
It says "Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect Failed"

So i have no idea what to do after that, if i can get that to work i can fix this but until then i cant.

have you tried with http://bthomehub.home/ ?

Also, any neighbor that may be able to lend you a router for a few minutes to test? going off on "I heard that" isnt a good idea. make sure that is the problem before spending time trying to fix it. believe me, I learned it working in IT. hours spent trying to fix problems that were not there to begin with :(

Tried what in it, i use it yes to forward ports to things but some things even with forwarded ports wont work, NS2 etc.

That and i have asked around for the Ports but noone has them, so i just need to get the video tutorial to work over here.

I forwarded telnet server ports on bthomehub, they are 23 but that did nothing, dunno if i need to reset router though.

Im not following. what is the problem? fromw hat I understood you had trouble accessing the router, but now you said you have forwarded certain things.

Troubleshooting something like this is not easy, but possible. as long as the game starts listening on a port, you can find out what port it uses.

What you can do easily is run the game, start joining a server, and run netstat -ano > C:\netstatNS2.txt as soon as you start joining the server

This will give you a verbose output on the text file specified with the ports currently in use, wat they are doing (listening, syn_sent, established) along with a PID (process ID)

Match that process ID to the one for NS2 using task manager (may need to change the view to show PIDs, views>change view I think)

I think that should work, if ports are really the problem, given that NS2 starts listening on a port when you join a server. once you have the port, forward it. if it sticks on listening, the forward should make it change to established, meaning someting has connected and is giving you info

It is unlikely this will yield any results (note that Im doing this off the top of my head, while working, there may be simpler steps, or someone can just tell you the port)

The fact that you cant access it using telnet doesnt really mean anything. maybe telnet is disabled on the router by default and cant be enabled. as long as you can access it using the webUI your router is working fine.

The reason i'm trying to access it is people have done this and fixed the problem, it is a similar problem with games like Killing Floor, connection gets lost the first time round, bt homehub are terrible for games, you have to forward ports to get some games to even connect and i cant even play some games even when i forward the ports (Brink) so i'm trying to get in here and remove the GAME port section that usually ###### dis stuff up/

Alright, so you CANT access the router. easiest and quickest way, just reset it. but make sure you know how to access it again, or youre screwed.

I would still suggest trying to get someone to loan you a router for 10 minutes so you can test.

    Hello there, new player here

Registered so I could come and say that I'm unable to play too. I join a server (it fails to connect most of the times), I play a few secs in the starting room and them everything freezes (people stop moving) and the red icon to the left of the screen appears saying that it is disconnected. I could only join a server where this didn't happen. I hope it's fixed soon.
