Game unplayable after upgrading to Windows 8

Surprise!
I have a MSI GE60 notebook. Specs:
i7-3610QM quad-core processor
Nvidia GTX 660M
8 GB RAM
I would get 30 frames per second on max settings at 1080 resolution before Windows 7.
Now, it's around 5 frames per second. I believe the issue stems from my laptop's "turbo mode." When games are running, the processor overclocks itself. The turbo mode light no longer lights up when I play NS2.
Every other game runs fine.

Just boot off your Win8 disc, and choose new installation, and delete all your partitions. Windows 8 will install. Then just upgrade your graphics drives from Nvidia or AMD's website and you should be golden.
I would only format the partition you want to install Windows 8 at and backup data on it first

Win3.1 -> good
Win95 -> bad
Win98 -> good
WinMe -> bad
WinXP -> good
WinVista -> bad
Win7 -> good
Win8 -> complete the sequence
(Disclaimer: "good" is meant in microsoft software standards.)
I wouldn't mind to take a real serious note. Like, how bad it is to enforce a UI that is made for a touch screen to desktop users. Or how stupid regulated their software-install processes are.
Win8 is bad and you should feel bad for installing it. ;)
Sad to see soo many sheep join the "hurr-durr it's new so it sux" bandwagon without showing any actual issues besides a stupid menu you can disable.
This is like judging the a car's performance from the paint-job.
Quite illogical.
Also, Necro, WinXP good? It was a disaster till SP1, way worse than Vista's driver issues.
Win98 wasn't too hot either till SE and you forgot to include 2000, one of the best and the prototype for XP.
Everyone on 2001 were crying XP sux, stick to 98SE/2000 and eventually it became one of the most used by both popularity and longevity.
OP: Consider (re)installing the Runtime C+ packs, DirectX, .NET framework and drivers.
So, was it Windows 7 or Windows 8 you upgraded to? Just making sure.

xp launch was ###### and thats MS's fault. driver issues were a huge problem and that effects user experience. now, who cares how well something is *supposed* to work , when in the real world it doenst work for the user. for the OP his performance in NS2 dropped in win8. to him the its not "vastly better".
me? im on the wagon of, my win7 install is running fine and I have 0 reason to upgrade.
if it aint broke dont fix it, win7 is barely out of infancy and now win8 is out. id hold off on getting it

This was it. Problem solved. I went into the Nvidia control panel and forced the Nvidia card on.
Issues will probably be had from carrying over installed applications from a prior version of windows, which you should never do. I used the upgrade myself, but there's an option in the upgrade to do what is essentially a clean install (it'll put everything on the Window's partition in a backup folder, except /Users). No boot from external media required.
Yeah, it just doen't fit in his claim.
My friend just the other day actually told me he was reformatting his new SSD with windows 8, i told him not to, later that night he said hes reformatting back to win7 as win8 was causing issues for him in the games he plays. Coincidence?
