Just thinking.
The aliens seem to be a farily leen, sneaky race. Using speed, trickery, and abilities to win. So where does the onos fit in? Its like having an elephant with a pack of cheetahs.
The onos is like big momma. Boy, she can really pack a punch too
I have to kinda agree on it vs. the other aliens though -- watching an ONOS climb a ladder is hilarious as well.
It's quite simple really. All the other Kharaa forms are small and sleek because they were designed to preform a certain task (IE; Fade = Footsoldier, Skulk = Light attack and reconaissance unit) with all these tasks relying on a certain amount of speed and flexability. But the Onos's job is vastly different from all the other forms- He/She is meant to be a TANK. Can you think of any better biological way of making a tank than taking a huge monstrous armored animal and giving him big tusks?
And if were referring to pure physical looks here, compare a screenshot of an Onos with one of a Skulk. Noticing any similaraties? Thought so.
It is a bit funny that the race would suddenly spawn something as big as a bus when thus-far most of the life forms have been somewhat small, but just think about what going from one to two hives gives you ...
You get a skulk with one hive. A little dog-like beastie. With two hives the beastie doubles in size to a fade. With three hives that doubles (triples even?) in size to an Onos.
Each hive adds more and more to the Kharaa gene-pool, and it actually is a logical progression ... sorta ...
Umm.. check the gorge.

Aah miscomsemption or whatever the word is. The skulk is bigger than the gorge. I think?
