Hardware/Engine test?

Is the Engine Test still around or updated perhaps?

My machine will run NS2 no problem. My son's is questionable, and I'm researching what can be done so opening day we aren't left waiting to be able to upgrade. A while back there was an Engine Test for Spark. I know there's hardware requirements, and that's a nice guess (Ghz isn't terribly useful measurement these days, for instance), I'd like to use the test to be sure how it will run, if that's even doable. A demo would have been fantastic, like the Beta or something, but I purchased the 4-pack after the Steam page went up (obviously, sorry), so that's a no-go for me.

I searched the forums, but after about 4 pages of forum threads on engines or tests of various kinds, I thought asking might be faster.

Cheers.

The engine test was a single tiny map whit target dummies, when nothing but the marine and his rifle was around.
That have now evoled into the NS2, along whit all the updates.
So no, there is no more engine test.
If you are thinking about some kind of game benchmarking tool, im afraid that isnt around either.

For now, the best test is NS2 itself.

If I understand correctly, you don't have beta access right now, so just installing Steam on the other PC is out of the question...

There are some system requirements, but I think the easiest thing to do would be to post your system specs. There's bound to be other people with similar specs around that can give a heads-up on performance.

There better be one. NS2 runs at sub-par performance and still will even after release. It's not fair to people who will buy the game who are rightfully expecting it to run at a reasonable speed.

This is largely no ones fault but the users. Hopefully they read the system requirements before purchase. Most people who meet the recommended system requirements are doing a lot better in the past few builds. One of my friends even averages 70FPS

I know the game has a lot more optimizing to be done, but im not so sure how much better FPS is going to get if you're only meeting the bare minimum requirements to run the game.

Per request, I'll post his machine's specs. For convenience, I'll also post the minimum/recommended requirements:

His comp:

OS: Windows Vista 64 bit
Processor: Athlon Dual Core 4850e 2.5 ghz (Again, this is a big question mark, it's from 2009 though some benchmarks tell me it's good on the low end of cpus still. Ghz just aren't very useful as a metric, especially AMD to Intel comparisons) http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php...Dual+Core+4850e
Memory: 4GB (DDR2)
Graphics: NVidia Geforce 9600 GT (It's a DX10 card)
HD Space: enough, more than

Minimum:

OS:Windows 7 32/64-bit / Vista 32/64 / XP
Processor:Core 2 Duo 2.6 ghz
Memory:2 GB RAM
Graphics:DirectX 9 compatible video card with 1GB, ATI X800, NVidia 8600 or better
DirectX®:9.0
Hard Drive:5 GB HD space

Recommended:

OS:Windows 7 32/64-bit / Vista 32/64 / XP
Processor:Core 2 Duo 3.0 ghz
Memory:4 GB RAM
Graphics:DirectX 9 compatible video card with 1GB, AMD 5770, NVidia GTX 450 or better
DirectX®:9.0
