Steam Authentication failed

seams i can authenticate in steam, anyone have an idea on how i can fix this? tried running in compatibility mode. no servers refresh, and i cant even load map by typing in the console map ns2_veil. here is what happens in console. Error: steam is not connected. can't authenticate player. and than Error: Couldn't open file. just sits on loading screen.
