Pre-purchase

Would a laptop be strong enough to run this, I don't really play computer games so I'm not that experienced, it is a fairly new laptop but I don't think it would be better than average. Also, how do you log in once you get the game, as I am getting a new computer soon so I don't want to buy it then have it only play-able on this laptop. Thanks for any help!

Nope it wouldn't.

It activates and launches with Steam, so you can play on diff computers.

Depends on the laptop. If you gave us the specs we could probably say for certain.

There are a few guys here that play on laptops.

And like Chicken said, it runs via Steam so you can play it from any computer that you installed Steam and download the game onto.

I don't know if you need to know anything else or what Steam is to be honest. Thanks for the reply's so far.

Wait until you have a better PC. NS2 will not run well on that system in it's current state.
Steam is a digital distribution service software, it's a front-end software for your games.
You buy games in steam, you play them via steam, etc.
Here is the link for steam:

Though you can't buy NS2 via steam before it officially releases, you can pre-order and get into the beta right here:

So does that mean this laptop would be powerful enough to power the game once it is fully released?

Do you have any idea when it is going to be released?

Yeah that laptop would have a very hard time trying to run NS2 in it's current state.

Now as far as being able to run it once it's released, that's impossible for us to say. But according to the NS2 Wiki;

What are the system requirements?
The target specifications for Version 1.0 are 1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, a DirectX 9 level graphics card, Windows Vista/2000/XP, Steam, mouse, keyboard and of course, an internet connection. We are working hard to make sure NS2 runs well on average hardware without having to upgrade your machine! We are doing heavy optimization work now.

NS2 is currently in alpha/beta testing and we do not currently have a release date set yet. It all depends how smoothly beta testing goes...

I have a hard time believing they will get it to run really well on specs this low. It maybe playable but not in a fun way...

Right now I believe they are still shooting for a late summer release date.

4.5GHz is what it takes to get the job done at the moment. Otherwise you'll be hollering and screaming at the performance at one point or another. Should get better with more patches but right now...you'd maybe see 15FPS max to be perfectly honest.
