Starting at the server list screen (If its black)
1. go back to main menu
2. go to options
3. go back to main menu
4. go click on join (either it will be black again or showing list)
5. repeat until server lists shows up.

That is how I was able to see the server lists.

I'll tell you what the magic behind this trick does:

You're waiting until the master query server from valve actually responds, so if you keep your server list open instead of doing all that, it will fix it exactly the same because it will populate the list the second the valve server starts working again.

^Heh, not a workaround :| Nice try though, its just refreshing the list correctly for you this time, if you actually sit at the server list and wait for a couple minutes the servers show, but someone really just needs to sticky the http://www.play4dead.com/ns2/ to stop this massive thread, as it is valves problems.

Dont include the port 27016, is it is normally 27015

Hi!

Sorry, but this is a bit cryptic. How would stickying that URL fix the problem? I am asking because:

QUOTE

* Using the http://www.play4dead.com/ns2/# website and clicking "Join Server" only produces a steam window with server info and the text "Server not respnding".
* Using the abovementioned website and noting the ip:port and trying to connect via console does not work either.... The error message is "disconnected from server - Couldn't establish a connection with the server".

Connect via the console and use port 27015

Substract 1 from the port listed there (that's why the Join button doesn't work). If it says 27016, it's actualy 27015.

There's a bug with the play4dead.com website where it tries to connect to the query port instead of the game port.

Step by step instructions:
* Go to www.play4dead.com/ns2 (preferably via in-game Steam browser)
* Click server list
* Pick your desired server and write down the IP (e.g. 1.2.3.4:27016)
* Open in-game console (the ~ key)
* Type: connect 1.2.3.4
* (Optional) If server has a custom port (not 27016, e.g. 1.2.3.4:27019), substract 1 from the server port and type: connect 1.2.3.4:27018

Can't UWE complain to Valve about poor service? Seriously, ns2 is a fantastic game but no matter how great it is people will just drop it because of something like that. It really hurts the game imo :( And it's not an uncommon occurrence, seems to happen on weekends in particular which is extra crappy.

(we did come to the conclusion that it was Steam's fault, right?)

Thank you for those explanations!

I have searched the forum maybe two dozen times but could not find the info you just posted in an easily available form. But now it makes sense.

Yes, I agree. A sticky post would help. A sticky post with lots of info in the thread title so that the abominable and totally useless forum search function may find it at last....
