It does not matter how many more hit points a larger egg has, it will always high priority target because the marines know there will be an onos or a fade inside of it.

Possible solution:
- Egg stays "normal" size and health for the first half of gestation.
- At half-way point, the egg would begin to grow to final size, and also incrementally get extra health according to the health of the target alien class.

So, for instance (these are sample numbers), assume the egg has 50 health, the target alien has 200 health, and gestation takes 10 seconds. During the first 5 seconds, the egg health and size would be 50/normal. During the next 5 seconds, health would grow from 50 to 200 and the size would increase to the target size. If the alien takes 100 damage during gestation, that amount of health would be lost, but gestation time would not increase. So, the alien would pop out with only 100 health after 10 seconds.

This provides sneaky marines the chance to kill unwary eggs, while also allowing egg size to grow.

We could leave the egg the same size considering most people do not care about realism according to the realism thread.

the reason why eggs look the same, and we have so many of them is to confuse the marines while reducing spawn camping at the same time. So why would we want to make it easy for marines to know which egg is which. Some of you people (including developers) making things more about graphics then actual gameplay.

And if you want realism, go outside.

In regards to realism, I remember there is a plan to make gestating players see an egg membrane overlay, instead of 3rd person view of the egg.

If it is decided that egg sizes are too important a factor to anonymity/protection of gestating/spawning players, I would suggest a simple progressive increase in FOV for a gestating Onos player for sight advantage. It could be made to feel like you are becoming a bigger lifeform while keeping your egg the same size.

As was suggested earlier, how about keeping the eggs all the same size and having the onos spawn small and weaker, then over a minute or so it 'hardens' and increases in size and health?

An Onos sized egg is going to look stupid. I think you'll need an egg form that changes over time until the onos pops out.

True, a giant pink egg would look silly.

Instead of gestating from an egg, we could have the onos gestate inside of the hive. This would give the aliens another reason to get more hives and provide some level of protection to the gestating alien.

Onos gestation in a hive is a pretty awesome idea. It would limit how fast/often kharaa could produce Onos (somewhat like making ARCs/EXOs?). This would really help smooth out the transition into the late game 3rd tier tech. The aesthetic quality of it would be very cool as well.

edit: Okay, guess this could be solved by having random sized empty eggs...

I think it should be obvious when an alien is evolving, currently the gameplay mechanic of killing evolving aliens is nearly non-existant. There should be absolutely no buffs in this regard. IMO of course.
