<div class="IPBDescription">Welcome to frustration central!</div>Does anyone else get random crashes on the editor out of nowhere?
It seems to happen <u>a lot</u> for me and has sent me into unholy tantrums of rage.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Work on a map for 2 hours, suddenly a crash out of nowhere.
Rage hard, curse myself for not saving the map.

Work on a map again for another hour or so.
Crashes once I begin adding textures.

Rinse and repeat until I give up on map editing.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I can see where everyone is going to tell me to save the map constantly,
but when I do the editor seems to crash at the worst of times.
I love map making, and I have (in my opinion) some good ideas which I'd love to try for NS2,
but I just can't handle all this random crashing at the most unopportune of times.

Anyone else been getting this problem?

i get those crashes too. so i save often with hotkeys. especially before switching to the line tool, because crashes seems to happen with that tool way more often!

so, well, yeah, save now and then, especially before switching to the line tool

I get crashes sometimes, but not often TBH. But by default there is the autosave feature, did you turn that off? By default it will save the map every 5 mins. What are you doing specifically that is crashing it, because like I said, its a rarity for me, and I have been working on my map for multiple hours a day for the past 2 months. From time to time the program will act as if it may crash(windows "thinking" icon, as well as program says "not responding") but if i wait for a moment it comes back. I believe that mostly happens, as others have said, when switching tools, but it is rare for me to see it completely crash, if it happens i just give it a few seconds and it comes back. Maybe you arent giving it enough time to respond? Is it closing the program or just hanging? Some detailed info might help, in case it is something you are doing specifically to make it crash... It can be random, but since it doesnt really happen alot to me, even though I use the program alot, Im inclined to think you may be doing something to cause it. Of course it could just be one computer runs it better than another. But never hurts to dig into it...

It always crashes when I begin to texture.
And I have no autosave feature on my editor whatsoever.
What the hell is wrong with mine.

If its not under Tools>Settings>General(tab) called "autobackup" then maybe you are running one of the old versions of the editor. While that is unlikely, since steam should auto update it, I did find out the other day that before they switched to steam all of the files were just within their own folder under program files, and if you had created a desktop shortcut to the launcher, all those files are still there, so if you ran launcher from that icon you would open the old version. Thats my only idea though, autobackup should be there, if not, you should re-verify the integrity of the files under steam, and it should fix it.

Perhaps that would also explain why it crashes so much...

Save early, save often. Use multiple saves when you start making drastic progress. Report crashes. Not much more you can do

    Ctrl + S before L always.

Why does everyone but me have trouble with the Line tool :o I wonder if it has anything to do with shortcuts, cuz if a tools shortcut is away from the wasd keys i tend to not use it, just click the icon.

I got the autosave on, it's a must in my opinion AND i pressing ctrl+s has become a habbit, i do it 2-10 times a minute and i usually have 2 backup copies of the map before i make any big changes.

You could argue that this shouldn't be necessary but hey, the Editor is still in Alpha i believe and they are hiring people, one of the jobs was to improve the editor if i recall correctly.
So try to make ctrl+s a habbit :)
    Cheers

man I need to learn how to program, then I'll get to work on this bizniz... damn stuff... like school, oh well, I guess it's a good idea to improve my "general knowledge" before I move on to specialised tasks like programming...
