Why Do I Still Get So Much Lag?

after all i've done.
I've tried literally everying in the pinned ": Help for low FPS rates" and I still lag like mad... People on servers say "Im on a [800mhz/600mhz/500mhz/400mhz or whatever] and I dont lag" many have 256MB RAM and PCI video cards.

It only happens once a bunch of structures are up..., but i have seen it with as little as 4 people (including me) on servers. I've heard from people on 56k who claim better performance. I am on DSL.

current setup:
Acer v75M Mobo
AMD K6-2 500mhz processor
256MB SDRAM 133 (max supported by mobo)
13GB HD
CTX monitor
CDRom
CDRW
3.5" disk
Visiontek Nvidia Geforce4MX 420 64MB PCI (I dont have agp)
Linskys 10/100 LAN card
Efficent Networks ADSL speedstream 5360 modem
300 Watt power supply
on board sound

OS: Windows 98SE

I run Natural Selection at 412x384 on opengl.

I run Enditall and close every program possible before playing CS.

I run defrag regurally

My drivers are up to date (except my video card which wouldnt work correct on the newest (Beta) nvidia drivers

I dont have any viruses (I have NAV2002)

have you tried running it in direct3d or software instead of opengl

The game is almost unplayable in Software mode, the right click menu doesn't display properly, and many of the sprites and well as the hud as messed up.

What kind of lag are you taking about, frame lag in FPS, or internet lag in Ping?

Yes I have tried all video modes and different resolutions.

I used enditall and a program to free up memory and played NS with little lag, maybe it will always work.. I hope : )

There is one thing I can think off that might cause this. In your config.cfg ,open it with notepad, there are three settings. "cl_updaterate", try setting it to 20. "rate", make sure its at 9999. And cl_cmdrate. You might want to try lowering it to 20. The higher the two cl settings are the better your proformance is so if this helps try raising the cl_cmdrate a few points at a time until it starts causing lag again. You can monitor this using "net_graph". Set it to "net_graft 5". These are just the ones i was told about. They may help. Maybe others that read this forum will know more.
