read and post
Does anyone else find it hard to paly as kharaa, i find it hard althoug hlast time i played NS i took out 3 marines kudos for me but anyway...
the only way i feel that you can kill the marines if you get the suprise on them and they will stutter to attack, but if they see you your as good as dead since they have the good ol long range advantage (o note when i was being a skrunk or is it called skulk, hmm must be thinking about buzzybots), you can only kill marines if, your all onos or have good palyers on your team or have bad players on the marines

I win more rounds as an alien because I am less dependant on my team mates, though victory is always sweeter as a marine because they truly have to work as a team to win.
success with the kharaa depends on your ability to find the alien that best suites your playstyle, and work around each of their weaknesses.
practice makes perfect right? try dodging as much as you can. and uh skulk gets killed very easily so try evolving into a fade and using that :/
As soon as one walks past I "tag" him with a Parasite, drop from the ceiling and run like the wind.
I then use my newly acquired yellow swirly thing to follow and hunt that Marine and chomp
on the back of his head.
The Silence ability is also amazingly useful here.
Onos don't rely on anything it all comes natural :/
When i use the parasite for the skulk i dont anything being shot out? or see a mark on the wall when i do a test shot?
I like playing as skulk, not much you have to do, don't have to build, just wander around killing but often i have to help my team and become gorge to get hives for team and other stuff...
if had to upgrade what would you best choose:
movement upgrade: ?
sensory upgrade: ?
defense upgrade: ?
P.S i used i think the skulk would have looked like a head crab, based on the screensize of the mouth it looks to big for the skulk model, i thought it was a fat blobbish monster with a big mouth like a headcrab
o Also has anyone ever heard of the anime "Blue Gender" it reminds me alot of this mod :/
about the upgrades it depends what alien u are and your style of play, for onos and fade use healign upgrades so u last longer in battle. and maybe the one where u teleport back to a hive when ur a bout to die. (if ur an onos)

As skulk I use :
Move : Celerity
Sens : Cloak
Def : Carapace
With all other attack units, I use the same combo but Adrelaline instead of Celerity. Works great for me.

I use the same for skulk. For Fade and Lerk, it depends. If there's some defense chambers nearby I can go to, to heal, then I change celerity to adrenaline. If there's not, I change celerity to adrenaline and carapace to regeneration.
I've also seen something only a couple of ppl think to do.
I was marine in ns_bast, and there was a Fade in the vent at spawn. It was completly 0wning us, not because its a fade, but more because he used Scent of Fear. I tried it later and its great ! Too bad its in the same category as cloak
- A Stronger Attack upgrade?
- Something that ID's Parasites, (example : Parasited Marine - would have yellow circle as well as the marines name, health, weapon, and position in meters)
I don't know something like that.
Fade & skulk:
Carapace - more/better armor = longer life
cloak - at lvl3 its a must have for any hunter
celerety - makes u even faster.. makes circle strafing turrets even easier...and as a fade it offers u that little extra boost required to to go close combat
Lerk & Onos:
Carapace
cloak - funny in hallways beeing onos
Adrenaline - gives you the abillity to nonstop spore spam areas and spiking while flying as lerk. As onos you can use primal scream (boosting urself) and energy recharges fast enough to kill loads of marines
hunting Lerk (good for bigger rooms w lots of hidingspaces and vents (eg ns_hera genroom between foggy corridor and ventilation shafts)
regen - eliminates the need to withdraw to hive/outpost thus allowing lerk to stay in pos longer
adrenaline - as mentioned above flying and spiking costs energy.. so ull neeed alot of it
advanced hive sight - makes marines and structures glow like x-mas trees at lvl3, making em an easy target for long range spike attacks
(btw. dont use adv. hive sight unless its lvl3.. lvl1 for example renders hostiles nearly invisible if activated)
in reply to archer:
i dont think we need a stronger attack upgrade, as it is now i chomp most marines in 2 or 3 bites as a skulk... and by the time marines got HA, fades should be available to the aliens.
Well, imagine a fade with Acid Rocket, hiding in a dark vent, comming out shooting a couple just to hurt ppl. Other aliens attacking the base too. Marines comming back for hp. Its a great advantage to see who's hurt cuz 1 or 2 rockets will take them down. The game was pretty late though.

Hmm yeah, but be very careful cuz if you redemp with onos, you risk getting stuck.

Movement: Celerity
Sensory: Cloaking
Defence: Regeneration
That is my key to the victory
Here's the plan: I go to a recently used path that marines use, lets say right in front of their main base door, and climb up to the ceiling. After a while I hear "Let's move out" and prepare. Wait. Wait. And there he comes. (The marines very rarely stay in groups as they are supposed to) I look at him just passing me, then chuckle "hr hr hrr..." and the guy jumps out and starts to look around and panic. After he has shot some walls in his paranoidic times, I jump down and bite his fat-arse off. "Hr hr hrr..."
Now that's the way I like it

I still feel that the skulks bite should do damage 160 degrees around it head, and if it does the I really don't see it.
PS I only read the first post because I am kinda in a hurry, but still want to post.
Redemption: to get to base if almsot dead
cloaking/scent of fear: to hide in corners and so on, to see weaker people
silence/adrenaline/clerity: more power to use more attacks/quiet for the sneak atack/faster speed to be fast
could some one put up a pic of the use of scent of fear so i have a better understanding

Unfortunately, there's no location damage.. a bite to the foot does the same as the head, which is annoying, because it seems like a skulk launching itself from the ceiling to your head would be more effective than one walking up and biting your feet.
Oh yeah, and I always wondered why the game told you to be marine if you're unexperienced, because the marines are almost always harder to be.. unless you have a great commander who always gives you waypoints and objectives.
Edit: Oh yeah, and hi everyone. Great forum here.
Edit: oops, there's a page 2. Consider this a reply to the end of page 1. My bad.
