Upgraded Base Armor.

When upgrading armor from the Arms Lab, Heavy Armor will have the bonus applied automatically while newly spawned marines will require welding before they get to take advantage of it. Bug or "feature"?

Hope it's a bug because no commander ever gives a welder for non ha marines to heal their armor

To be honest, I probably could've just PM'd Flayra, but for a few things.

    1) He's busy coding sweet, sweet bugfixes for Natural Selection

    2) I'm betting every time he logs onto the server he gets "You have 23837 private messages"

    3) Someone else on the boards is bound to know the answer to my question

    4) The suggestions forum is swamped with new weapon ideas, and didn't seem like the right place to bring up this kind of thing.

its a feature, works the same for aliens with carapice

if you get carapice as a skulk then evolve to a fade you have full armor

however if you are a fade and get carapice you have to go to def chamber to fill the reserves

i just wish people would realise this. So many people think they spawn with the upgraded armor, when i ask for a welder at spwan to upgrade peoples armor the responce is "we just spawned, we don't need armor repaired."

I wish if you have a welder that you could see the armor status of an individual (and not on the floor, that system sucks when your marine!).

good posts briger I liked your stuff in my phase gate post. But I think marines should spawn with upgraded armor if the upgrade finishes before they spawn.. or in the very least the arms lab should pump their armor if they are lacking it when they spawn

It would seem fair that they had the ability to upgrade their armor automatically at base like the aliens do. (The hive upgrades the armor before you run off.)

With the way the game is currently balanced, armor upgrades should be automatically applied to new spawners. To keep skulks from getting owned too much, maybe armor upgrades should cost more?

however i always upgrade weapons first, those turrets are mean mofos after level 3

btw, when you upgrade weapons to level 3, what damage does the seige turret do?

do weapon and armor upgrades apply to existing or newly spawned things only?
  • InexorableInexorable Join Date: 2002-09-28 Member: 1360Members
It applies to everything, but only weapons get affected automatically. Armor has to be welded before it hits full potential.

Considering that a normal marine usually dies before he loses all of his armor, I don't think it really matters whether they spawn with normal or max armor.

With the Khaara, carapace actually improves the amount of damage that your armor absorbs, not just the quantity. Upgraded marine armor only improves quantity- your armor isn't any more effective than before. I always go for upgraded weapons and motion tracker and equipment before I bother getting to the armor.

Actually, the armor upgrades do increase how much damage is absorbed, but only for light armor. Heavy Armor still absorbs 95% of all damage regardless of armor upgrades.

The thing is, for me there's really no point to researching armor then, since light armor marine players don't have time to sit around welding eachother each time they spawn. Allowing full armor on spawn would make that upgrade a lot more useful.
