That's ridiculous. Top and Tester should have been automatically placed.

I can't believe July didn't advance but I heard he just switched over to SC2 recently. Artosis I'm not surprised at all by and it looks like Team Liquid (the most prominent foreigner team in South Korea) was dealt some pretty harsh hands with Jinro and Haypro both failing to qualify. Nazgul didn't even try, which is strange.

They're apparently getting seeds after the first three GSLs. I guess they want to have as much variation as possible, but forcing everyone to participate in qualifiers seems just unnecessary.

It's really easy to get knocked out in prelims at this point. Someone comes up with a new weird timing push, works on it for a week or two and then reveals it in a best of three. It's nearly impossible for the opponent to adapt to the push between the rounds. That's what seemed to happen to Tester at least. He got beaten by a terran 2-0 in the last round of prelims.

Yeah, that's €10 for me, which is well worth it.

I really enjoyed the games today. Really looking forward to seeing TLO in action tomorrow.

SC2 SUCKS!!!!
It is now has Warcraft color hues but with better graphics.
Idk how to describe it but they killed how it should have looked >:(
they did a great job on the archon, that's how it should have looked, & the SCV.
I think they should have made SC2 look more real and less cartoonish.
DOWN WITH SC2.
and wtf is with the different armor & weapon dmg bs.
I expected the regular point system like the previous one.
My head hurts and I can't think of what I wanted to say : /
Oh yeah, the beta pissed me off >:(

lol, your head will explode once you get your hands on D3..

By the way, there was special armor/dmg in SC1 too, it just wasn't written. See this for more details.

I'm sick of brown and gray games. Your opinion sucks.

The gameplay is brilliant. I won't say perfect, but damage types are awesome.

I want to love SC2- but there's so much damned cheese in my crappy silver league. I got up to rank 2 but couldn't be bothered continuing to play against all-in 6pools, proxy barracks or cannon rushes.

There's no sense of acheivement when you beat those "strats" so win or lose I don't enjoy most of my matches.

It gets only a little better later on. On high plat level people don't go cheesing very often, but everyone plays those 1-base all-in pushes, even the zergs. Maybe 1 out of 10 games actually develops into dynamic macro gameplay.

The problem is very much the same. It's not fun to beat repetetive opponents with repepetive counters. I've been stuck on plat ranks 2-10 forever now. I simply don't have enough motivation to repeat the safest counters over and over again.

While I was playing WC3, the creep camps sometimes felt like a dull chore, but right now I'm starting to realize how much I appreciate the effect they have on opening up the game.

The best part about this is how you rave about SC1 but don't even realize SC1 had armor types and special weapon damage, just like in SC2, but they were hidden from player in game. The cartoonish style you don't like was likely used because it is generally much less resource intensive and with SC1 still being popular 10 years after release Blizzard didn't want to force customers to buy a new computer for SC2.

I wonder if a 10+ year old computer could run Starcraft 2 in a satisfactory manner... Man, 10 years ago the Pentium 4 wasn't even out. And the GeForce 2 MX was all the rage. Wonder if Starcraft 2 could run on a GeForce 2 card... Anybody have a really old computer around somewhere they could install it on?

If possible, replicate Project E.U.N.U.C.H. with slightly newer hardware and much newer games! It ain't overclocking until you smell burning silicon and boiling tequila...

yeah I was watching that too. Really impressive performance by painuser as the people in that tourney have 10 to 15 years of RTS experience. He showed that, among foreign players, he's the real deal.

The level of play at the last MLG was SICKKKK I'm so impressed with Painuser with that Ranking. I knew he was serious business, you could tell from his streams and stuff he took the competition very seriously, but I thought a few years would pass before he'd be looking like he could win tournaments.

The quality of games was outstanding and Painuser rocked his late game transition to thors and banshees, which worked surprisingly well against protoss and owned zerg. But lets remember that the winner of MLG Dallas didn't even qualify for the GSL, so I think until there is a full-time professional scene with teams and houses etc. these players won't reach their potential.

You can check out some great casts of painuser's games here: http://sc2casts.com/?q=painuser

High end competition doesn't really work like that. For example...

Idra, knocked out somewhere midway through the MLG Dallas brackets, made it to the round of 16 in GSL2. sSKS, round of 8 in GLS1, didn't qualify for GSL2. FruitDealer, GSL1 champion, lost in the round of 32 in GSL2. There's many more examples of amazing players (JulyZerg) either not qualifying or posting extremely poor results.

When you have such a new RTS game and are in a single elimination tourney, which qualifiers based off single elimination rounds, you're bound to get really strange results.

Jinro looked WAY more solid in MLG than he was looking around the time of the GSL qualifiers, at least from the various replays and stuff I watched before then. I think he basically just practiced his ass off like never before coming up to MLG and smoothed out all those major kinks he had in his play before then. His old replays are acctually a bit bad, bad judgement mistakes and not very good micro. I think both him and TLO railed off serious practice time with the OGS guys before they headed back stateside. TLO was looking amazing at Dallas too, MUCH MUCH better than his GSL 1 skill, and pretty good compared to his GSL2 showing too.

Frankly, I think this last MLG shows that we need proper world tournaments, not bull###### Korean tournaments turned into 'world' events the way the 'World Series' by not even having proper competition points(if you have to go to Korea to compete, that cuts out 95% of the competitors).

I think we're worse than them, but a lot closer than people think. IdrA said it best when he said that likely, our absolute top end are pretty close to their absolute top end, just with their higher-but-not-top players way better than ours.

Korea isn't invincible, no matter how many TL nublets want to think so.
