How are the Khaara similar to the Zerg anyway? They do things a lot different then the Zerg, not to mention the TSA being also very different from the Terran in doing their thing...
Besides, SC is out in the open on a large field of skirmishes. NS is indoor in claustrophobic and cramped environment... I really don't see any similarities other then aliens vs humans thing, which is obvious but flawed in many ways. That is like saying Aliens, Predator and SC(2) are all the same or quite similar when they surely are not, because they have humans vs aliens...
Besides there is no reason for adding another race to the game, the game is fine as it is...

I think it is different. It's essentially folding in marine-vs-marine minimod action into the main game. Think of what it allows. For example multiple commanders for both marine teams! And do the marines play as 1 or against each other, and how often will that change throughout a round.
You know what it reminds me of:
"Ripley: You know, Burke, I don't know which species is worse. You don't see them ###### each other over for a goddamn percentage".
So it would be interesting to add that fear of disloyalty to the game. For example, maybe one of your marines is working for the enemy!!! >:D
It feels like the minimod for gmod called "Trouble In Terrorist Town", but with aliens.

-frontiersman are about teamwork so 2 marines working together to kill a single 'hunter'
the 3rd race could be a totaly 'solo' race , without base (with only a cloaked portal that spawns you and it spawns on random places on map so its not easy to find) , upgrades earned on kills

This is related to an idea i had a long time ago, where the marines (besides fighting aliens), had to fight the <i>map</i>.
For example, their would be times when the power, life-support, gravity would go out... and occasionally electrified rooms, and burning rooms, and flooded rooms etc.
So what if some players could be on the "maps" team, for the exact purpose of raising hell for both the aliens and marines. For example, in a simplified variation... it would be like like a game of zombie master, where the zombie-master is setting off traps throughout the map. It would definitely add another layer to the rts aspect of the game, besides adding (unpredictable disasters) realism :P
3rd side would be nice and can be done like in Pirates, Vikings and Knights all the races doesn't need to be on the same map. Race selection could be map specific. Most important thing is if it will be done 3rd race has to have commanding structure like others, game system shouldn't be altered, there will be players and a commander for them as well, they can be pysically weaker but technologicaly stronger aliens with shield technology maybe and stroywise they could be the ones actualy created Kharaa and the first hive mind but they become sentient and free themselves from their creators then invade other planets for their survival. Also the third race can see Humans as a threat as they search for resources they try to control planets under their control and they need those resources as well.
Joke or not, sounds like it could be a neat mod. Might be fun to see aliens and marines team up against a common enemy in survival-based gameplay. The Hidden: Source does the whole "squad of marines versus one super mutant" thing wonderfully.
There are loads of ways to go with this - infantry team versus one commander spawning AI units, controlling the atmosphere, power and other hazards... maybe some sort of rogue artificial intelligence flitting about the level via power currents. It's worked before!

Unknown Worlds Entertainment straight up does not have the finances to make a new race now. Attempting to put a 3rd race in right now would result in failure and no NS2 being released.
For NS3, a terminator type race could be awesome.

PS: Every race in Starcraft is a rip off from Warhammer 40k. Terrans = Space Marines. Protoss = Eldar. Zerg = Tyranids (Though name is a rip off from Toy Story of all things). To be fair a race concept must be really creative and nonhumanoid to not be a vague rip off of something done before.
