After random surfing i suddently went over a thread with cryengine pictures - non jungle style, and found this:
<a href="http://www.pcgames.de/screenshots/original/2009/06/sensman.jpg" target="_blank">http://www.pcgames.de/screenshots/original.../06/sensman.jpg</a>
I think underwater base maps would be kinda interessting, its at least something we ve never seen in the NS universe, have we?
Hope you guys find some interessting artwork too.

ns_altair was underwater actually.
I think with the right materials and props it could be done despite NS2 not actually having water. I would really like for there to be water as I think it would really add to the atmosphere and open up some different types of gameplay.

anyway, at the time I'm only producing art assets and testenvironments, due to layout can only be tested if the alpha is out.

If you texture it, ajust the lighting and fill in some models i'm sure it will do pretty nice.
Maybe UWE will include an import function for .vmf later.

You can already open .VMF up in Spark. It is limited, but doable.

And an octopus!
Yes, please. Thank you.
dont forget the "laser beam"
We already know about dynamic infected that could make a HUGE difference in an underwater map
Dynamic infection could spread through the tunnels and start to crack the tunnels causing floods to come in. not dramatic big movie floods but small ones that leave a crotch high amount of water. this will cause people to move slower through these tunnels thus creating a sence of fear that something could get you from under the water!
Many more oppertunities with this but i cba to type the rest
(Did i spell oppertunities right?)
Not that there'd be much to see out there though. Lots of flat nothing. Maybe some ugly rocks. All the things that are pretty to look at live on coral reefs in shallower water, and Greenpeace wouldn't just let you dump a lab on top of one of THOSE.
Besides, what are you doing underwater? If you're doing research, you wouldn't need sweeping vistas and miles of completely glass hallways. If you were a mad scientist hiding, giant spotlights aren't exactly subtle :D Then again, mad scientists don't usually prioritize subtlety, do they?
Plus, it's cold underwater, and glass doesn't insulate. You'd probably freeze to death in your inverted aquarium!
I mean, hell, Rapture in Bioshock was full of glass with great scenic views. Consequently, 90% of the maps were full of water because the glass was breaking. Now you want to fire jacketed rounds at it? How come it's acceptable to have entire rooms of glass to stop the ridiculously hostile environment of the ocean out, but nobody ever makes giant rooms of glass on space ship maps? Same principles here!
:)
